I'm a bird watcher...love to see the birds that come to our backyard...and feeders. Just read about the man in Florida who had some gorgeous peacocks and got into a tizzy, because his neighbor fed his birds...So, he killed two of his peacocks and had them for dinner. He wanted to teach his neighbor..how heartless he was??? He is now in jail, because of strict laws against animal cruelty in Florida.

The shoe in this article reminded me of the Roman Army Museum in England near Hadrian's Wall. The artifacts displayed include 100 or more recovered shoes of all sizes. Every shoe has an ancient human story to tell, which made the shoes fascinate me. Museum site linked below.

Since the bearded vulture is primarily a bone-eater, I checked before assuming he was a raptor. I'm fascinated by raptors, and indeed, he is one. According to Wikipedia, "The bearded vulture is the only known vertebrate whose diet consists of 70–90% bone." The wingspan is between 7 ft, 7 in and 9 ft, 3 in, and females are slightly larger than males. And this is interesting (again, from Wiki): "The acidity of the bearded vulture's stomach acid has been estimated to be around a pH of 1. Large bones are digested in about 24 hours, aided by slow mixing or churning of the stomach contents. The high fat content of bone marrow makes the net energy value of bone almost as good as that of muscle, even if bone is less completely digested. A skeleton left on a mountain will dehydrate and become protected from bacterial degradation, and the bearded vulture can return to consume the remainder of a carcass even months after the soft parts have been consumed by other animals, larvae, and bacteria."

Fascinating! 🦅

Weird Nature Thursdays sounds like a good idea, John Leake. I too enjoy all sorts of weird nature spectacles, some are mind boggling, some are hilarious, all are interesting. I note though, that National Geographic has lost all credibility with me long ago, as you mention their ideology, with me, unacceptable in the light. The Smithsonian is pretty much in the same category... with both organizations endorsing evolution rather than creation. Here are some wise words, from the Bible, applicable here:

" Proverbs 19:27... "Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge".

The passage advises against listening to teachings or advice that will lead you away from true knowledge.

The truth is not a mixture made from lies and veracity. Mixing ideology with the truth is an adulterant, not a booster. I have jettisoned the National Geographic as a harmful publication, and do not endorse their work, because enough of it is incompatible with the truth to make it dangerous.

I tried out the Smithsonian mag a few years back and was almost immediately repulsed. I believe I cancelled it for the remaining months on my already highly discounted subscription! a bunch of woke crapp.

I , too, have unhappy with the National Geographic's woke lean to the left and cancelled my subscription years ago. I second everything you have written.

Thanks Christina, now that you have seconded, we should demand a vote. Let's have a vote on who believes or not believes any of the major medical journals these days, and ask Dr. McCullough to preside. Nicolas Hulcher could be the main witness representing the truth, and the intrepid, successful true crime author John Leake would very well capably represent the prosecution. John could also highlight the proceedings on Weird Nature Thursdays, documenting the weird nature of the pathological liars behind the Covid vaccine fraud, and the strange behaviors of their accomplices. Thanks for participating in the fight for truth Christina. God bless you.

Captivating post. I love birds. The gold finches come out of hiding from the nearby reservation to feed on the cone flower seeds every fall. Here they are again. I looked it up but I was sure it was Russel Crowe in that clip. It’s my habit to confirm things. I might not make a good journalist but you can see I have leg up on the garbage they employ at the New York Times (any excuse to insult MSM … one cannot hate them enough)! Somehow don’t have time for movies … this looks like a good excuse to watch one! I watched Pete Hegseth’s presentation …. a pretty good flick! I shaved off my mustache right after. Even Anthony Hopkins has been exhorting us retirees to quit looking like slobs. I’m a little behind on “PT” but if I were in Ukraine they would send me straight to the front!

Thank you, John! This will be great fun. As a birder I find this species fascinating and beautiful. Wild that it eats mostly bones. Our Turkey Vultures have not migrated yet as we saw one today.

I have no time for the woke National Geographic, Audubon and Cornell's Lab of O. You don't see any of them concerned or doing anything about wind turbines killing birds, bats and whales, not to mention the blight on the landscape - including in Texas as you fly into Harlingen.

The great thing about the Creation is there is always more to learn!

I see Tony Blair and Jared Kushner types among other preying master minds as human kin to Bearded Vultures. Only they make the vulnerable indigenous turn into easy prey of bones admidst the rubble as intended. No rest for the profiteering Wicked.
