Documenting the Greatest Crime in History

Andrew Huff shows how SARS CoV-2 was the monster of American Dr. Frankensteins.

Readers of this Substack are aware of the steadily emerging evidence that SARS-CoV-2 was an engineered virus that either leaked or was deliberately released from a lab at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. One could write several thrilling books about the US Bio-Security State gone rogue and giving money to reckless scientists to support their manipulations of animal viruses in order to make them infect humans.

I spent the last few days reading Dr. Andrew Huff’s book, The Truth About Wuhan. Dr. Huff was the Vice-President of EcoHealth Alliance from 2014 to 2016—the critical period during which the company’s president, Peter Daszak, sought and received a grant from Dr. Fauci’s NIAID to conduct illegal and extremely dangerous Gain of Function research on bat coronaviruses.

I recently met Dr. Huff at the Los Angeles Festival of Books, where Skyhorse Publishing presented our books.

Dr. Huff—an Iraq War combat veteran—is a tall, prepossessing, and self-assertive man who doesn’t shy from confrontation with powerful people and institutions. Here he is writing about his former boss, EcoHealth Alliance president Peter Daszak.

Another problem that I identified [at EcoHealth Alliance] was that Dr. Daszak had been using the Data and Technology team to work on all his hare-brained ideas and side projects. … [His] demeaning behavior was generally representative of Peter as a leader and was a behavior that I had previously identified in others whom I classified as assholes, idiots, or both.

Dr. Daszak was the author of a notorious grant proposal, dated 5/27/2014, and titled Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence. This document should be viewed a companion piece to the 2015 paper titled A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence by Veneet Menachery, Zhengli-Li Shi, Ralph Baric, et al.

The Truth About Wuhan is a fascinating work of true crime, and much of it reads like an espionage thriller. Dr. Huff’s writing is at its strongest when he dissects the machinations of EcoHealth Alliance. Together with its key collaborators—Professor Ralph Baric and Zhengli-Li Shi—the company took bat coronaviruses that posed a purely hypothetical risk of infecting humans, and deliberately altered them in order to make them infect and sicken humans.

Analyzing a key passage from Dr. Daszak’s 2014 grant proposal, Dr. Huff writes:

Peter really is communicating: we will make up a pseudoscientific definition and measurement system for something we just invented from thin air, and which cannot be replicated, called “emergence potential.”

Then, we will use genetic engineering (a.k.a. reverse genetics) to make SARS viruses that can only replicate once and we will begin to explore compounds that will rapidly examine the selectivity and affinity of a test agent to a receptor target, so that we can identify a chemical structure to generate a lead medical treatment for the engineered virus (a.k.a. receptor binding assays). After that we’ll see how well our engineered viruses and pseudoviruses infect human cells (in mice).

Next Peter piles on the horse manure a little thicker but he does is so eloquently: “With bat-CoVs that we’ve isolated or sequenced, and using live virus or pseudovirus infection in cells of different origins or expressing different receptor molecules, we will assess potential for each isolated virus and those with receptor binding site sequences, to spill over.”

What Peter is really saying here is: using the SARS-CoVs isolated or engineered with varying types of receptors, we will test all permutations of naturally occurring and engineered viruses or pseudoviruses to specifically identify which ones would be the worst for humanity.

Then, we will take the results of this analysis and combine them with our pseudoscientific measurement system to make many bold and unsubstantiated claims about the probability of disease transmission between bats located in isolated caves, viruses which we just created in the laboratory, and humans. He then goes on to say: “We will do this by sequencing the spike (or other receptor binding/fusion) protein genes from all our bat-CoVs creating mutants to identify how significantly each would need to evolve to use ACE2, CD26/DPP4 (MERS-CoV receptor) or other potential CoV receptors.”

This can be deciphered as Peter saying: But first, we must sequences all the spike proteins (the part of the virus that enables coronaviruses to penetrate cell walls in animal species that were found in naturally occurring coronaviruses and the coronaviruses’ spike proteins that we created to determine which one has the best ability to infect human cells. Then, Peter continues: “We will then use receptor-mutant pseudovirus binding assays, in vitro studies in bat, primate, human and other species cell lines, and with humanized mice where particularly interesting viruses are identified phylogenetically, or isolated.” This scientific jargon means: We will create binding assays for the engineered (mutant) pseudoviruses that we created. Then, we will conduct a series of experiments in a laboratory where we attempt to bind all the viruses that we possess, both engineered and natural, to a wide variety of species cells, including humans, to determine which ones are the most dangerous to humans. The final statement from Peter is a real gem: “These tests will provide public health-relevant data, and also iteratively improve our predictive model to better target bat species and CoVs during our field studies to obtain bat-CoV strains of the greatest interest for understanding the mechanisms of cross-species transmission.”

The final translation: these experiments will characterize how to best engineer SARS-CoVs to make them highly transmissible between animals and humans.
