It’s been a week. Give it a break.
I spent a few years doing genealogy studies on white collar crime families who were somehow related to us.
In the course of several wild goose chases, I learned a few things which may apply to Kirk's alleged death:
1. In the US, it's perfectly legal to fake your own death, as long as the family does not try to cash in the departed's life insurance policy.
You read that right.
There is no law preventing anyone from buying a fake death certificate and hiring a dirty coroner to sign off on it. That's not to say that the coroner may lose his license- but that's his problem, not the departed's!
2. Likewise, anyone can buy an empty casket and a bogus burial plot- no questions asked.
3. It is legal to change your name.
4. It may still be possible to get a bogus SS number to go with a bogus birth certificate.
It was done all the time when our grandparents were alive.
5. When a death is high profile or particularly gruesome, people naturally expect the victim(s) NOT to rise from their graves.
Therefore, it is very possible for an individual or an entire FAMILY to "die" in a terrible accident or murder ( like the Manson murders). After a safe period of time (like a year or so) the deceased can simply move to a different location, change his name ( not always necessary) and carry on with his life as usual.
Because the world spent that interim period getting past the trauma of the "death", they cannot imagine that the "dead" person would come back to life!
It's truly mind boggling.
In my own family tree, an entire family of 5 "died" in a tragic plane crash. After about a year, the remnants of the plane were found- but nothing resembling human remains were left inside... minor details!
The extended family bought the victims an impressive tombstone, death certificates, the works. End of story.
Hardly.
Turns out, their deaths were faked from the get go. The father was involved in illegal drug running for the CIA. When his town was about to be busted by local law enforcement, he had to get out of Dodge - fast.
So with a lot of help from his spook friends, the great escape was a huge success. And nobody changed their names or birth dates!
My niece, whose father was a Mafia guy, told her these fake deaths happen all the time in the Mafia. She saw it with her own eyes while growing up.

Richard, this is the one I think is most believable. It is worth following. He is not the shooter. That rifle was a joke. When I saw it I laughed. I thought Hollywood could have done a better job with a prop rifle. The scope was to far back towards the stock. You'd get a black eye if you tried to fire it. It was bolt action and the scope was situated right over the bolt. Just my opinion. I'm more inclined to follow Webb's theory. Blessings!!
