Your naivete is showing John. We're in the middle of a Colour Revolution. These people tried to assassinate Trump twice. They did kill Charlie. Two National Guardsmen were gunned down by an ex-CIA operative from Afghanistan. The Seditious Six just came out and basically ordered/authorised the military to disobey the President's orders. This is a war for all the marbles. Destroying the globalist cabal in league with the cartels who run Venezuala and have corrupted US elections and disrupted US society with uncontrolled immigration, crime and drugs is necessary. People die in wars every day. This is a war.

Jim's avatar

Excuse my language, but who the F are "These people?" Not Venezuelans, 2200 miles from the US. Venezuela is NOT "run by" cartels. You want those? Look to the countries with which the US is chummy: Honduras, Ecuador. Their major drug smugglers get pardons. Countries which have shown some independence from the US, and seek to use their own resources to improve conditions in their own countries, get coup'ed, sanctioned, starved, and attacked by Uncle Sam. Get a grip!

Laura Cornwell's avatar

Better take a trip to Venezuela, honey. They are not exactly using their resources to better the lives of their own people. Open your eyes. It’s not the people who are benefiting from the drug running but only those at the top. Gotta love that socialism.

Jim's avatar

Strangle an economy long enough, like the US does regularly (see Chile, where Kissinger ordered "make the economy scream,") and Venezuela now, and life will go to crap. That's the point of US policy. You want to know why the US was so hostile to Hugo Chavez? Look at the numbers:

https://cepr.net/publications/venezuelan-economic-and-social-performance-under-hugo-chavez-in-graphs/

Laura Cornwell's avatar

Except that didn’t actually happen in the case of Venezuela. We did not hinder their economy. The government stole from the people and suppressed their own economy to line their own pockets. Kissinger, by the way, was always evil incarnate.

Jim's avatar

OF COURSE the US "hindered" the Venezuelan economy. What do you think all the sanctions are for? The theft of Citgo, Venezuela's premier foreign asset? The seizure of Venezuela's gold that was stored in the UK? The US coup attempts, then claiming the elected-by-nobody Juan Guaido to be the President of Venezuela to provide cover for those looting operations? All of it designed to wreck the economy, provoke chaos, and set the stage for the overthrow of a government not a vassal of the US. Just like Chile. This is standard US operating procedure. What the US fears most is the threat of a good example, of a development model not under the thumb of the US. There were real social and economic gains for the majority of Venezuelans under Chavez, who sought to use the mineral wealth of the country in a fashion not too different from what Norway has done with its oil wealth. The US could not tolerate this from a poor nation in South America, led by brown skinned people rather than those aligned with the Gusano Industrial Complex headquarted in Miami. So the wrecking crew was set to work.

Mark peter's avatar

Very true,

We are in a fight for our survival and have been walking around with a knife in a gunfight for decades. Bout time we caught up a bit.

Die Untermensche's avatar

By your arguments for more bloodshed (without evidence or trial), the execution of any US servicemen in this conflict would be fair and justified.

Taming the Wolf Institute's avatar

Not fair. Not justified. But that is the reality in which this asymmetric war is being fought with criminal cartels,

Die Untermensche's avatar

I think you have missed the point. And you're assuming without any evidence that these attacks are against cartels and not just anonymous fishermen

DBC's avatar

Nobody was fishing, from that boat. The boat was running 'goods'. We can pretend to know what they were running... but we're told what they want us to hear. Too much conjecture, imo.

Taming the Wolf Institute's avatar

True. The containers might be filled with explosives. Who knows?

Laura Cornwell's avatar

Sometimes common sense tells you all you need to know. Fishing at 70mph? Not a fishing pole in sight? Drums or huge packages on board? Anonymous fishermen folk with $100,000 worth of engines on their pangas? Hmmm, maybe not fishermen.

Taming the Wolf Institute's avatar

Please, that is silly on the face of it. Fishermen in Venezuela cannot afford such a battery of high speed motors. Not with a year's earnings. And the pictures (evidence) clearly show them running materials, not fishing. No evidence? C'mon. Let's not get so silly that we believe the entire CIA propaganda. And you might want to address the issue of Venezuela sending an invasion of Tren de Aragua into the U.S. You might not be up on the evidence when it comes to this issue.

Martin A. Allen's avatar

Radio communication to the cartel was intercepted prior to the second strike. That seems like evidence.

Agree on the Color Revolution, but how does initiating a war against a South American country do anything to stop that revolution? Instead, it's given the seditionists another charge against Trump. The Seditious Six are here in the U.S., as are the CIA's Afghans (from another crazy foreign intervention) and the enormous number of Biden's Venezuelans, along with any other insurgents who elected to waltz through Biden's open gates and collect Biden's generous welfare payments. A major false flag is coming to be pinned on the Trump administration. Wouldn't it be smart to have troops here, and not in South America? Trump ran against neocons and RINOs, and now he seems to be one, doing his enemies work for them, as well as stocking his administration with them while shunning his America First base.

Jennifer Jones's avatar

They weren't "shipwrecked."

Douglas W. McDonald's avatar

Well stated, thank you. Since drug smuggling appears ruled out, what were these batsmen doing and why did we take them out? Something at least as threatening but what?

Michael Srite's avatar

We don't know because the cargo was left floating, went down with the boat, or was retrieved by our intrepid sailors. Whichever it was we haven't been told, perhaps because it was legal merchandise or the Navy didn't want to find out they had murdered innocent people. Criminals often try to destroy or cover up evidence.

Maha's avatar

The physiology of the trauma sustained by human beings subjected to the explosions in the first strike negates the likelihood of survival. They were not "killed" in the second strike, they were dead or dying , but their cargo was further decimated and dispersed.

Laura Cornwell's avatar

So sorry but coming from a country who locked up their own citizens in detention camps during CoV and beat them up on the streets for leaving their homes—it’s pretty rich. So.

Taming the Wolf Institute's avatar

Could go into a long post of why I believe you have read this action wrong, John. But I'm tired of battling the propaganda of the CIA agents in our Congress trying to take down this government. This latest effort to set the grounds for an impeachment and coup does not differ from previous treasonous attempts. Remember when Trump tried to bring the corruption in Ukraine to a close... and they impeached him. If Americans had been a little more insightful in their observations, millions of Ukrainians would still be alive today,

Allie's avatar

You’re absolutely correct, Taming the Wolf.

Mark peter's avatar

Thanks for the update to the previous post, John. I can agree with your suspicion of government and reluctance to believe any narrative given.

I still say “kill ‘em all and let God sort ‘em out”

Maybe there is a larger message being sent to Venezuela that we’re unaware of, very possible.

And there is always some political game playing out that’s no doubt involved as always.

But I’ve seen first hand the destruction of these drugs in American communities after 10 years on an ambulance crew. Currently in my city locally, and previous states that I’ve lived in, the destruction certainly warrants this type of response.

I still believe these aren’t fishermen. I agree that the type of boat isn’t ideal for the 2k mile trip but hasn’t stopped the bootleggers before. Of course not, they’re desperate and trying to fly under the radar.

Has there been a single shred of evidence of a fishing pole, even as a novelty…

Jim's avatar

Has there been a single shred of evidence of drugs on the boats? Anything that would require anything more than the Trinidad and Tobago police/coast guard forces from inspecting the boats? Any other country taking the approach of "kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out" against US citizens would immediately (and rightfully) be condemned as terrorists and war criminals. Dial down your exceptionalism, and take on board what John has laid out here. He's absolutely right.

Oh yeah: explain Trump pardoning the big-time Honduran drug smuggler at the very same time he's blowing up little fishing boats 2200 miles for US shores.

Venezuela has oil, and we want it. Good oil. A lot of oil.

If you want to know who the biggest trafficker of illegal drugs is? Ask Sibel Edmonds.

She admitted it is the U.S.

MLK's avatar

Nonsense. Rather than listen to that lady you would better understand events by listening to Trump. As he has oft-noted, "I'm not happy with Venezuela." You're not paying attention if you haven't figured out that one way or another the POTUS will see the hordes Maduro dumped in the US sent home. Not just the straight up illegals but also the TPS the illegitimate Biden regime attempted to legalize by sleight of hand. To finish the point, listen to Trump this week on the Somali "garbage" for, unless I miss my mark, some signaling to Venezuela. Regardless of status, those who engaged in immigration fraud, or are unlawfully receiving public assistance (88% of Somalis in Minnesota), they've got go. I can't be the only one to see the method to the POTUS's madness -- using the Syria analogue, remove the pretext used to justify the mass migration and then send them home en masse.

Trump is also serious about ridding us of the scourge of drugs. He's talked about it for years. Including the death penalty for dealers.

Finally, and anything but the least, Trump is restoring the Monroe Doctrine. Venezuela is a failed state. So much so Maduro and his regime are protected by Cuban intelligence. China (and to a lesser degree Russia) owns and controls its economy. They were up to $60B years ago when big gay Obama was welcoming them in to our hemisphere.

Hence the focus on this drug boat strike is missing the forest for the trees. The Democrats have latched it to further their resistance. Unless you're on that side of the equation I suggest you chalk it up to Tying Up Loose Ends and move on.

Nonwo's avatar
Dec 5Edited

Listen to Trump vs Sibel Edmonds??

Seriously?

Trump could not find these countries on a map.

He really doesn’t know anything and relies on the closest person to his ear (Jared Kushner) for his information. The Biden administration told Maduro to empty his jails and bring them all here. Same with mental hospitals. As a matter of fact he told all Central America and South America to send us their “garbage”

Trump is not allowed to talk about this sensitive subject of the purposeful plan of globalization and depopulation.

Definitely ALL claims by all US governments (and their lapdog) should be treated with extreme caution given their long history of lying and criminality. It has been disappointing to see some previously sceptical commentators suddenly abandon that scepticism and flag wave for what is simply extrajudicial cold-blooded murder because it aligns with their own inclinations and prejudices. Drugs are smuggled from central and south America, but that doesn't mean for an instant that all venuzuelan fishermen are drug smugglers - even if they may indeed smuggle other contraband. Murder is murder and extrajudicial murder among the worst.

Mark peter's avatar

“Murder is murder” is incorrect.

There is a difference in justified killing and immoral murder.

Die Untermensche's avatar

No, Protestants and catholic may justify murder as justified, but it remains the ultimate crime for the Orthodox, even in self defense it requires repenance.

However, that's not the point of the comment, which to repeat government extrajudicial murder without evidence or trial or self defense - as is happening in these instances - is evil, criminal and wrong, regardless who does it.

Laura Cornwell's avatar

I might agree with you if, every time a kid died by taking some pill illegally laced with an overdose of fentanyl, he was avenged by a drug dealer getting the death penalty. But that doesn’t happen. There is no “fairness” involved in a multi trillion dollar business that is killing people by the millions. There is too much money involved to trust the Caribbean countries with interdicting and punishing. They’ll just collect their cut and send them on to us. Much like is happening in the IS. You can’t tell me we couldn’t cut the drug cartels off at the knees if there wasn’t so much money trading hands between the politicians and the drug gangs. At least blowing a few drug boats out of the water )let’s stop the pretense that anyone thinks they’re innocent fishermen) saves a few thousand lives.

Jim's avatar

These killing are not justified. John has made the case very clear. You are gulping down the usual bullshit propaganda cocktail served up by every US administration before it destroys another country. Were you alive for the Iraq invasion? Libya? Maybe you're not old enough for Vietnam. But by now you oughta know better.

Jennifer Jones's avatar

I was alive for all those wars. Not a single one of us here, has any knowledge whether the killing was justified or not.

We're just guessing. We don't know what some others in our country know.

Jim's avatar

No, these killings were clearly NOT justified, for all the reasons John laid out. These boats only had the range to make it to Trinidad and Tobago, whose government (very friendly to the US) could inspect them. This is Hegseth, Trump, blood-drenched nutcases like Elliot Abrams all trying to "look tough" as they gin up a coup or invasion in Venezuela. It's bad theater, except people are getting murdered. No charges, no trials, no convictions, nothing but some death-squad leader deciding to "off" them. Again: if drug smuggling really is the issue, explain Trump pardoning the major Honduran smuggler at the same time he's saying these little boats are such a threat to the US that all law is tossed in the dumpster.

Nonwo's avatar

Looks like you have been hanging around the wrong crowd.?The truth has been kept from you. Refer to ”A clean break: A new strategy for securing the realm”

“Project for a New American Century” and the “Defense Policy Board”

The gist of these lunatic documents whose agendas are being carried out as we speak, is to overthrow peaceful countries if they have a chance, even in the far future to economically challange the U.S.

We invaded and overthrew ,Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and more only because of these wacko documents which give carte Blanche, like the Patriot Act to invade any country we want.

The biggest prize left is Iran and they will never be able invade Iran.

What is the evidence of Venezuelan “drug smuggling?”

It’s funny the U.S. targets “drug smuggling” and “terrorism” in only oil producing countries.

Especially those that have democratically elected leaders who want to better the country and the living situation for all the citizens.

It’s funny those that push electricity, the fake climate change agenda and

criticize use of oil are the same ones that will invade, occupy and overthrow the elected presidents of the oil producing countries, as well as murdering innocent civilians to get to that oil.

That is the only thing. Just like Cuba.

I remember a few years ago US mass media was showing empty shelves in Venezuelan grocery stores.

In reality all the stores were fully stocked. It was a fake.

A simple way to know what the truth is is it is the opposite of what the U.S. says. Works every time.

HardeeHo's avatar

Maduro has become a dictator. His rule has completed the destruction of Venezuela’s economy to the detriment of the public. But he is surrounded by loyalists who are much better off than the public. Many have fled to better places. Socialist governments seem to have elites at the top while the citizens become uniformly poor hardly getting by. Venezuela once was a gem of South America but has been ruined. The Chinese are in the process of taking control of Venezuela’s riches. Maduro is fine with that as long as he and his supporters gain. Elections there have picked new leaders but Maduro won’t leave.

One consideration, in my mind, is that drug dealers are the worst garbage on earth. Parasites, using the legal system for cover is not O.K., in my mind. If I was in power, which I am not, I would leave no safe haven for any drug dealers, anywhere in this world. The sticking point in this case, is of course, were those who were literally blown out of the water actually drug dealers or not. By the way, Bourla, for example is a drug dealer, in my opinion, along with his contemporaries in Pharma and those involved in the government sponsored Covid fraud. I cannot condone the killing of citizens by government mandate. Trust of government is understandably at an all time low.

Michael Srite's avatar

"...were those who were literally blown out of the water actually drug dealers or not?"

Most likely they were couriers. If this operation were anything like a criminal investigation the survivors would've been captured and interrogated to find out, and possibly to identify the kingpins.

You are not entirely wrong but enough so to miss the big picture. The drugs were destined for the US market. Secondary injuries from flying debris.

The controversy here is partisan and based on a false pretense from "anonymous sources". Listen to Megan Kelly's recent podcast on the topic. This is a "rules of engagement" and semantics controversy. The vessel was disabled but not destroyed. If the mission was to destroy the vessel and communication is still being coordinated by the vessel to coordinate with other narco smugglers then by definition the vessel has not been destroyed and has been disabled. A second strike is standard procedure. Listen to Megan's guest for a better explanation. This is a nothing sandwich. Don't bite.

We are at war. Until we accept that fact the only result will be a total collapse of our cities. The question is how do we stop the destruction? Another inconvenient fact is nothing done so far has made any positive difference on the destruction the use of drugs has caused. It has only gotten worse. Our enemies, those domestic and foreign, know how to destroy us without firing a shot. We do not have the ability to heal what has been inflicted on our country. We are 38 trillion in debt and will be 50 trillion by the early 2030's or no later than 2035. If we as a society cannot accept that we are at war nothing will change. My belief is we will get more of the same.

John certainly has a great knowledge of history. Just a thought about war. Not all is cut and dried about engagement. We bombed German and Japan cities during war. Were these cities not occupied by unarmed who posed no threat to the bombers? Armies have snipers who shoot enemies who aren't pointing a gun in their direction. We have a history of over throwing regimes that include assassinations.
