Being an expert on this topic for almost 3 decades, I would suggest you go back and watch portions of the greatest story never told and certainly watched the first four hours of Europa the final battle.

I never owned a Bible, until a friend gave me one in 1983...and I've been reading it for over 40 years. When I was in High School I volunteered to read the Bible before the class every morning, but we did not have a Bible in our home. My grandmother was a Christian Scientist..and taught me to pray, when I was 4 years old. My mother believed in God, but my Father was into nature. He taught me to respect nature and the earth. My mother was a teacher for 52 years and had no spare time. My father spent a great deal of time with us, when i was young...and he said it was better to be out in nature on Sunday than to sit in a stuffy church. Both parents were very well read; and out home was loaded with books. Every weekend my father would walk my sister snd me for miles to the library to get books to read. I was surrounded by many good people growing up, but most were not into religion.
It was written over the course of centuries. Those were patriarchal times and unscientific times. In many ways, we have not progressed. Very hard to separate people from an image of a man, maybe someone like Anthony Hopkins in appearance as the creator of the universe. I could see how children could believe such a concept, before critical thinking set in.

There were actually other earlier versions of Genesis where God made an hermaphrodite, and then split that hermaphrodite into Adam and Eve. So, Eve wasn't subordinated to Adam and society wasn't inherently patriarchal.
