We're watching a Christian revival in Gen Z. Pray it's a heartfelt submission to God and that He will, once again, steer the United States to greatness. In any other case, we are lost.

Well said John. I’ve been stating this for years. The source of our present problems is a Spiritual. People have long ago forsaken Christianity, the foundation of our republic. The result is predictable as mankind is depraved.

Whereas it true that Christianity may be the foundation of our republic, literacy and the study of history is the glue that holds it all together. "For lack of knowledge the people perish."

or as Micah said

"What does your God require of you? -- Speak truth, act justly and walk humbly with your God."

That is it...all the scriptures and stories boiled down to afew simple words.

TRUTH-- JUSTICE--HUMILITY

Amen to both, brother and sister. Simple. Remember the light. Know history, so the best is remembered, and, the worst,,..never repeated!

And,like the Tiger limerick below…Never get on the back of a tiger to cross a river even if it PROMISES it won’t eat you,,it will..it’s just in its nature…...

This is a beautiful article. Thank you for writing it.

Or to put it another way:

There was a young lady of Niger

Who smiled as she rode on a tiger;

They returned from the ride

With the lady inside,

And the smile on the face of the tiger.

The "elites" always think they will be the ones in control.

Powerful example with the German aristocracy. The idea that compromising standards out of fear only ends up empowering worse actors is something I've seen repeat across different political eras. I remember reading about Hindenburg's mistake (calling Hitler the "Bohemian Corporal") and thinking how elite dismissiveness can backfire when paired with tactical endorsement. Adams' point about Constitution requiring moral people still feels relevant, maybe more now than ever, though I dunno if we can legislate morality back into existence.

Law written on the heart! That’s what we need. There was a man long ago that knew that law written on parchment(or stone) would never last.

I wasn't brought up with any religion and never got serious about one. I do believe in a God-force of some kind and pray a lot though. As a math and probabilities guy I think intelligent design is a sure bet, Not being indoctrinated into anything, I can make the unbiased observation that Christianity is the best thing that ever happened to the human race and without a revival we are toast. So, praying for one.

Thanks for sharing your experience. That is the feeling of many without "religion" which they think is more fantasy than reality, or at the least a simplified version. However, once you start studying Christianity deeply, it may begin to create anew the way you perceive and experience many aspects of this life. It is not foremost practical, prescriptive religion, which is what institutions quickly turn it into, but it is a mystery religion, an attempt to preserve and cherish the most profound, nearly incomprehensible truths of our existence. How did the intelligent designer do it? What creates the space for our experience of morality?

It's above my pay grade to know what's going on in spiritual realms. FWIW, I asked Grok what's known about the religious decisions made by genius-level people we know of - like Einstein level. After some prompting, for example to limit it to those who settled on a dogma outside of a dominant influence in their upbringing, he cited three examples. Two, Einstein and Spinoza, settled on Pantheism. One on Buddhism. The trouble with these as a dogma for a benevolent, high-functioning society to coalesce around, is they don't have the mass appeal of Christianity. So, forget about any Pantheism onslaught. Christianity may be the dead on ultimate truth. i don't know. I do know one thing. It friggin' works.

I would put it this way: America, when our Constitution was written, had at least the great overwhelming majority of people who continually strove to live moral and religious lives, and strove to measure themselves by the Ten Commandments.

I love your writing, but I find this disturbing. Are you suggesting that immoral people must be government by a more oppressive government? I find this backwards. Immorality is usually CAUSED by government. Freedom is the answer and encourages civility.

John Leake's avatar

When a people ceases being virtuous they cease being able to govern themselves and take care of themselves, at which point chaos ensues, and then they welcome the suspension of the constitution so that agents of the state will vanquish the agents of chaos.

I suppose you would have given hearty assent to the French revolution, Carla. The people wanted freedom and violently threw off the restraints of the aristocracy and the church. The result was not pretty. Instead of "civility" they had the guillotine. In contrast, the American revolution was an experiment in ordered Liberty, where people were free to prosper and follow their conscience. But Adams and the other founders knew that this would require responsible citizenship. The anarchy in our streets and our bedrooms today is the natural outcome of rejecting God.

At one time most Americans were a bit more forward looking together. We must reveal that 'place' again,in our time. Geneticists have determined that everyone now alive on earth is related. The Spirit of light speaks and acts to draw all together. That Spirit of darkness blames, insinuates disection, accuses and separates. Demons only work their wrath after they enter the blind, deaf liviing hoomans.Demons cannot learn. They cannot grow. They remain childishly immature forever. " By their fruits you SHALL know men."

"Fear and Misery of the Third Reich" by Bertolt Brecht. This work is known for its critical portrayal of life in Nazi Germany and the social dynamics that allowed the Nazis to rise to power.

Themes and Content -

German Aristocracy's Role: The play illustrates how elements of the German aristocracy supported the Nazis to eliminate the Communist threat. This reflects the broader historical context of the time, where various social classes aligned with the Nazis for their own interests.

Sadly, I concur, but to slay a monster extraordinary measures with caution are needed. Our Constitution is already in shambles with an appointed supreme who can't define what a woman or a man is.

Constitution? We don’t need no stinking constitution!”

The lesser evil many people take rationalized solace in “selecting” is better thought of as merely the slower-acting poison such people are given & fall over themselves to accept.

Even Socrates. He could have just blown that pop sand. Hemlock was relatively quick nightcap, but all that corrupting the youth stuff was the poison he volunteered to be the antidote to.

As for feints like “A republic, if you can keep it,” & “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other”…

Some pugilists might see the telegraph: “How to get them to fire the first shot so we can blame what we always intended to do to them on them?”

To believe the so-called founders were to a man, or even mainly, moral stalwarts who themselves believed in the high moral caliber of the common people is one of those slow, pandering, poisons.

Double-binds (& double, or more, standards) & Catch-22’s & heads we win & tails you lose because our heads are just way too big to fail.

History?

That’s box steppers whirling round the plyometrics (are for kids) who take turns popping themselves atop the pedestal.
