The randomized trials and observational studies on vitamin D supplementation on health outcomes have been limited by multiple threats to validity: 1) short-term, 2) low-dose, 3) impractical outcomes, 4) lack of control over bias and confounding.

Given that medicine is both an art and a science, most primary care physicians have been recommending vitamin D supplementation for general health for many years. Now they have evidence-based support from an analysis by Pittas and coworkers.
