Censorship, when wielded by those who command the levers of narrative, media, and institutional authority, is not merely effective—it is indispensable to the preservation of power. By curating the boundaries of acceptable discourse, the ((establishment)) does not merely suppress dissent; it reshapes reality itself for the masses, ensuring that only those perspectives aligned with its interests achieve prominence. The controlled erosion of public trust in alternative viewpoints, achieved through the systematic marginalization of inconvenient truths, does not eliminate opposition so much as it fragments it—leaving the populace adrift in a sea of doubt, too disoriented to coalesce around any meaningful resistance.
Moreover, the beauty of modern censorship lies in its subtlety. It need not banish ideas entirely; it need only taint them with the stain of controversy, the whiff of disrepute. A well-placed label—misinformation, conspiracy, fringe—is often enough to ensure that even the most valid critiques are met with skepticism, not solidarity. The result? A citizenry that, while not silenced, is paralyzed—uncertain not only of the truth, but of the likelihood that others share their convictions. Inaction, after all, is the most reliable ally of the status quo.
"A well-placed label—misinformation, conspiracy, fringe—is often enough to ensure that even the most valid critiques are met with skepticism, not solidarity. The result? A citizenry that, while not silenced, is paralyzed—..."
"Fringe" and "conspiracy" are compliments.
"the whiff of disrepute." Yes, Jason, we naturally respond by doubting the person.
And just think, we never get to find out who is doing this. Some of the censors really are gold-medal level at their (dastardly) work.
Actually I from what I see censorship does work on most people. Even a great investigative journalist like Glen Greenwald fell into line on Covid and it looks like he lost his partner to the vax. It seems like it only doesn't work on some people on certain topics who are curious enough to look for the truth.
I had the same thought about "censorship never works". It can and does work, COVID being a poster child fresh in our minds. It's true that it doesn't work perfectly. If you want to say it sometimes backfires, true too.
While I appreciate Skyhorse publishing and RFK's book, the National Security Council directed the covid response: Fauci was the face of the response, which is why nothing will happen to him. Also, see Sasha Latypova's most recent write-up on Substack covering the Department of Signature Reduction.
And then I was just on any number of news sources who could report on the shooting at an in&out burger in Idaho and that the shooter was dead…
Three police agencies could even do a press conference; but NO ONE could say … a good guy with a pistol stepped up to fire at the bad guy.
When such blatant surface level censorship occurs; it helps understand how much or perhaps HOW LITTLE we are truly told - what is really going on; on any topic.
Sorry John, as much as I want to support what Tony Lyons wrote, shared yesterday on his MAHA Action page I can't. A story lamenting how we were censored, put for war by a 'brave truthteller' - who censors his own publication.
The hypocrisy is too much, and, like he wrote, it never works. His censorship reveals he is a liar and not to be trusted.
Explanation: Substack introduced automatic censorship in early June. I and others notified you, other authors who didn't notice the "replies hidden" that began appearing below comments in light grey font.
I shared my Alert, as others shared theirs widely.
And many free speech writers figured out how to turn "off" the censorship on their pages that was default installed "on." You turned them off. Gracias.
Tony's MAHA Action page has that same censorship (var. Shadow-banning) set to "on." Comments that stray from Substack's "community standards" that are exactly like Fakebook/Twatter/YourTub's are censored out of main view.
I subsequently shared a comment that explained as I did above, same link. That was deleted, not just the shadow-banned hidden reply there, but full-on deleted.
Tony obviously couldn't take being exposed for the hypocrite he is. To write a story about censorship while censoring is not only the height of hypocrisy. It is revelatory. Now I know - and will share - that Tony and MAHA Action are frauds. Liars. Opportunistic grifters on the health freedom movement. They revealed themselves as such in their audacity to stand for free speech as they censor it. And not just shadow-ban, but actively purge and remove comments that tried to alert them about the censorship done under their own page if they were unaware of.
I will NEVER trust a single thing any MAHA Action says. Nothing. All gone. I never trust rank hypocrites, liars, censors. He/MAHA Action are Exhibit A for what they wrote. Their censorship will backfire, not work. They slipped up, dropped their mask to reveal they are the baddies, too. Tony, MAHA Action: Fraudsters, liars, #FakeMAHA. F'em!
John Leake wrote the diagnosis, "The descent of an intellectual culture into vulgar, childish, stultifying conformity has been happening right before our eyes in the United States."
Perhaps nothing upset me more than seeing those around me disintegrate into abject stupidity during the COVID bioweapon attack. It grew so bad I had to pack up and move. People who were beneficiaries of a good life in this Republic went full time petty tyranny or donkey dumb, and the young people stared helplessly into space.
On one occasion a UPS truck stopped erratically in front of our house. Something was wrong. My neighbor from across the street and I arrived on scene at the same moment... an older man was lying in the street, his leg shredded, bleeding. We went into action to tend to him, kept him conscious, calmed him down as we waited for the ambulance.
What happened? The older man's adult daughter had seen the UPS truck drive past her house, and screamed because they had not stopped to drop off her toilet paper. She sent her father to chase down the truck. He caught up, signaled the driver to stop, hopped out, but forgot to take his van out of gear... and ran himself over. The panic and stupidity were mind-boggling.
In his recent interview, RFK, jr rebutted Dana Bash's misinformation about the covid vaccines. Where are the tough minded journalists and intellectuals among the liberal elites who will admit what all the evidence shows, that the mrna vaccines have major adverse health effects? VAERS even with its limitations showed a huge spike in adverse effects and few consequences have come out of that in terms of lawsuits or agency mea culpas.
Where are the substantial policy changes promised by Kennedy, ie permitting lawsuits against the vaccine producers?? Also the vaccine injury fund doesn't seem to be paying out anywhere near the caused injuries.
It seems the censorship continues to work quite well--look at the reaction to the Fauci hearing: distraction, circus, farce, conspiracy theorists, theatre, horse de-wormer, witch hunt, Fauci as victim, etc.. The same insults 5 years later...? Still effective. Debate cannot happen when one side's shouting of these moronic insults leaves no room. These parroted talking points from people who have read nothing, of course (they just heard RFK is a nut). As Jason already said here, to censor, you just "taint ideas with the stain of controversy."

I'm rarely envious of anyone, but for a moment there I envied you the opportunity to have Roger Scruton as your professor. What a great privilege!

Funny I was just on the AP news service comments and coming to understand how much they censor and how much truth doesn’t matter.
And then I was just on any number of news sources who could report on the shooting at an in&out burger in Idaho and that the shooter was dead…

"Anybody who didn’t give complete blind faith to the so-called experts got marginalized, vilified, demonized, and censored."

A new poem, written by my husband, Christian Naggiar
Pleading the 5th
About once every century...
A sick kind of evil comes along...
This particular snake, Fauci...thinks he can do no wrong...
We can all see it in his face...he's not from God's human race...
He preys on the weak!...it is easy to tell...
This duplicitous little sneak...comes straight from Hell...
His sole purpose, to destroy humanity...
No accidents, no mistakes...beyond insanity...
The Left quickly embraced...one of their own...
He became the media's face...and THEY welcomed him into our home...
From the beginning WE knew...exactly what he was up to...
It was hard to miss...a piece of shit such as this...
This media whore…always wanting more…
Now, he's pleading the 5th?!...
Refusing to speak!....this weaselly little puppet, looks lost and weak!!...
So I take solace in knowing one day...
He will reap what he sows...and will not get away...
His punishment? God only knows...
Because what I have in mind, I cannot say!...

Though I think the core of the MAHA movement is a good thing. The grift has most definitely infiltrated.
Hope it's ok to share some additional reading on censorship.
