yep. Remember that the Russia that was run by the Bolsheviks was a very different country than the Russia of today. The Bolsheviks killed 66 million Russians. Over 49,000 churches were destroyed and over 66 million people died in the massacres, man-made famines and in the over 1,800 communist concentration camps, which Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn described as the Gulag Archipelago.
The Soviet Union was committed to the complete annihilation of all religious institutions and ideas. Militant atheism was central to the ideology of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. The state established atheism as their only "scientific truth". Any criticism of atheism, or of the state's anti-religious policies, was forbidden and could lead to forced retirement, arrest and imprisonment.
In the first 5 years of the Bolshevik Revolution, 28 bishops and 1,215 priests were executed. In 1922, another 8,000 priests were killed. All of this was carried out under Vladimir Lenin, before the accession to power of Joseph Stalin. During the purges of 1937 to 1938, 168,300 Russian Orthodox clergy were arrested. Of these ministers, over 100,000 were shot by the KGB, in less than two years.
At the time of the Bolshevik Revolution, 1917, there were 50,000 Orthodox parishes, 1,000 monasteries and 60 Theological colleges in the Russian Empire. By 1941, less than 200 congregations remained in the Soviet Union and not one single monastery, or seminary, remained.

The Jews certainly suffered during the holocaust in the 1930's and 1940's but the suffering of the orthodox Christians in Russia that went on for decades was an order of magnitude worse, so why do so few people know about that? Who writes our history books, who owns the media? I've said for a while now that some of the greatest lies told by the media are lies of omission. This is but one example.
I agree that the education I went through in the 50’s and early 60’s never made mention of these facts. I’m now sitting with knowing that nothing I’ve learned about history is actually true.
When I was 19 in 1978 for some reason I chose to do a term paper on the Great purges of Lenin and Stalin. I spent dozens and dozens of hours at the Baylor University Library doing my research. I was absolutely stunned at what I found. Though I had been familiar with the alleged Jewish Holocaust, I could not believe that such a monumental Holocaust of proportions that exceeded the 6 million figure, many times over, had actually occurred and that I had never , ever heard a word about it in History classes, media or anywhere. It was all available in a major University library so obviously historians were aware of it. That began my journey into the Truth. The realization that history that we are taught is quite different from real history. It changed my whole perspective on life. You have to work hard to find the Truth. The internet has made seeking Truth so much easier, but sadly, very few have taken advantage of this opportunity.

I bought all three a few months ago, but still haven't had the courage to read them. But I realise that his critique probably applies to today.
I can't remember now where I first read about the number of Christians killed by the Bolsheviks, but the number was so huge it was hard to believe so I searched online. Search Assist in Brave browser said this: "Estimates of the number of deaths attributable to the Soviet regime under Joseph Stalin vary widely, with scholarly consensus suggesting around 20 million people were killed or died as a direct result of its policies. This includes victims of famines, purges, and the Gulag system, with some estimates going as high as 100 million when considering broader communist policies." But that's just Stalin. Lenin killed a bunch more and so did Khrushchev.
Different articles report different numbers, so at this point the "real" stats are likely difficult to verify.

absolutely! That was my point, that Soviet Russia was hell on earth for those who lived and died there, but the Russia of today is a completely different country with completely different government and leaders.
Today the Orthodox Church in Russia has over 30,000 parishes, 8,000 monasteries and 100 Theological seminaries. And there are other Catholic churches as well as Protestant churches in Russia. That's an incredible change since the low point in 1941.
I wonder how many real churches are there now? Oft times, in face of extreme persecution, christianity flourishes more than in places of relative freedom.

I don't know if you've ever noticed but on many occasions over my lifetime I have observed cheating spouses (both male and female) accusing their partner of being the one cheating.
