As much as I like that Kimmel was fired, our 1st Amendment Right to Free Speech is definitely more important. He shouldn’t have been fired for his hate speech. He should be fired for not being funny. He’s no comedian. Not funny at all. He should go find a more suitable job.

He wasn’t fired for speaking hatefully. He was fired for telling outright lies that could possibly cause harm to the country. He violated the FCC rules of engagement for broadcast TV, and ABC used that to dump him since his ratings had tanked. 😎

The first amendment only applies to the government's restriction of speech, religion and association. A private company can fire whomever they please for any reason they please. Kimmel was released because he was a liability to the company. The fact that he and his writers couldn't put together a show that attracts the kind of people that buys the advertisers products, had been the case for quite some time. Add it together, and it's "pack up, here's your box, be gone before lunch..."

This is the insidious thing about an entire media industry run by advertising budgets. The piper plays the tune he is paid to play, and the sheer size of Pfizers Ad budget bears witness. The control doesn't stop with Big Pharma ...any other industries will use the same model...Industry Friendly Programming

The irony is that Trump didn't fire him, he doesn't have that power. Disney fired him. Any one who knows Disney knows they don't do ANYTHING that Trump wants. They do what THEY want and that is usually anything that goes against what Trump wants.. This has NOTHING to do with Trump, other than using him as a patsy. What a ridiculous bunch of finger pointing.

Remember when Comedy Central grew quickly in popularity.

Colbert took his humor to the one side of politics to deploy jokes to young minds.

Stewart took the opposing party to counter like this was a comedy tennis match.

It's all theater and who can punch the applause meter better for late night big bucks.

Kimmel does not have anywhere the brilliance of Stewart nor Colbert. Never will either.

YES! It sickens me to see him getting so much attention! He’s nothing but an arrogant narcissist. The sooner he gets fired the better.

Kimmel, much ado about a real nothing! When TV came on the scene, it was supposedly going to elevate society. It did not live up to the future expectations...It produced a nation of TV addicts who did not have the energy to move from the couch.

Disney can't seem to get anything right over the last fifteen years or so; that's what happens when you let DEI and other certain ideologies take root in an organization. Disney has had a problem with deviants for decades; even in the 1950s, they took no action, all the while claiming to be a creator of family entertainment. Jimmy should have been axed years ago.

Johnny Carson never delved into serious issues, claiming that people wanted to be entertained, not reminded of their daily problems, especially those related to politics. He was correct. No one can touch the King of late-night comedy, Johnny Carson.

Not too long ago, there was a law called the Fairness Act. We should think about bringing that back.

Agree. I never watched Jimmy Kimmel because I don’t think he’s very funny and I find him offensive, especially the way he spoke about the unvaccinated during the last four years. But I do believe in his first amendment right to free speech. Sooner or later, he would’ve lost his late night slot.

Looks like the real late night "WHEEZY" got his due and his rejection notice.

His arrogance was his bread and butter giant contract prize.

Hard to imagine what his real home life was, and towards others.

I totally agree. But, This has nothing to do with free speech; it has to do with your contractual obligations. And let the marketplace have at him. He was on his way out just like Joy Reid. Next up is The View.

What jimmy Kimmel said was tasteless, but I’m not sure that he needed to be censored. It just perpetuates what we all went through 2020+ and fuels left wing anger.

Besides I kind of like it when they talk themselves into the ground. Natural selection.

Indeed, it was. Excellent point.

What happened to Jimmy Kimmel had been brewing for the past year. He has no protection from his employer for "First Amendment rights", as they have a business to keep profitable. Doesn't matter if what he said is true or false, if his employer is not gaining profit with his show, the business decision is the axe and start growing another tree that will produce value for the company.

Actually Kimmels remarks were really quite innocuous and in a country with freedom of speech he could have said them with no negative effects on his life. We do not have freedom of speech in American and Charlie Kirks deaths has brought on a major crackdown on what we have left...

False flag, I believe! Imo, Kirk was simply "converting" into another bothersome knat for the Trump Chump and/ or Netanyahu's ziofascists, and was squashed. Kimmel's termination by Disney/ ABC because of his Kirk comments, imo, was fraudulent. He was already being wrapped in a trash bag, (years overdue!), and pathetically, Disney latched onto Kirk's murder and Kimmel drivel to secure the bag and toss it.

Truly scarey, also, is that where there never existed, anywhere on the globe, the right to NOT be offended, the great unwashed (uneducated) are hysterically screaming that others be silenced/ censored for offending them with their comments.

John Leake is so right!

John - I am surprised to see you ghostwrite a letter channeling President Trump's more brash and divisive tendencies. Is it wise to call people losers, or any names? Perhaps it would be best for our leaders, - for all of us - to spend more time in contemplation rather than angrily shouting past one another. After all, we create the society we inhabit with each thought, word and deed. You asked what your readers want to hear more of. For my part, it is content that points to our better nature.
