I have my own laying hens. I collect fresh eggs. My chicken house is hardly hygienic. I am also a veterinarian. I don't worry AT ALL about the chicken poo on my eggs. I'm sure it contains some nasty stuff....chickens are nasty beasts. But I don't worry about it. I don't sanitize my eggs. My hens are happy and healthy and well fed. I will say the same for myself.
As a vet, I have a hypothesis, that I am sure NO ONE will study......WHO gets 'infected' with Salmonella, e. coli, etc? Are they healthy people with healthy immune systems? Why aren't we taking a page from the FBI and looking at victimology?
Honest studies of who gets infected with various illnesses, and why, have been suppressed in the past. The powerful biopharmaceutical industry will neither willingly place itself in a bad light, nor jeopardize its power or profits as many such studies would do. Other forces, such as political and social agendas also hold sway over the information disseminated to the public.
The question of why some get sick and others don't leads to some amazingly simple, but powerful, answers, and I hope all who truly seek those answers will find them.
Agreed 100%. I think the less intervention, the better, in production of food. The more you screw with it, the nastier it becomes. These laying houses are breeding grounds for nasty bacteria due to lack of biodiversity.....that's step one. Then, add in the awful shape of most people nowadays...no sunlight, no exercise, garbage diet....what do we expect will happen?
We have our own chickens, too. At 92, I am doing very well, because I am into doing everything necessary to stay well...exercise, sunlight, fresh air, and very specific natural foods. Food Variety may be the spice of life, but it is not the way to go. I eat species specific food, plus avoid many 'good' foods people are told to eat. I have not had a 'cold' in over 30 years...and I don't worry about germs that I cannot see.

She told me my potassium and I forget what else were dangerously low.
These days, I keep electrolyte powder plus at least one bottle of emergency Pedialyte on hand, just in case. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate if you think you've acquired an intestinal infection of some kind!
