My understanding is that any commercial aircraft would have gone around that storm system. One has to wonder if the pilots were fully aware of the risks of trying to fly over. Such a shame for a bright young promising pilot to come to that end, and likewise for the family and souls aboard.

Life is uncertain. There are few guarantees, but one guarantee is that eventually we all pass from this life. Live right, live well, and try to use your given time to make life better for others.

there's old pilots; and there's bold pilots;

but seems there ain't old, bold pilots .......

They said of the pilot, she was 20 years old.

Dan Star's avatar

She was the co-pilot and got her wings at age 17.

yes; I heard that: I listened to Hoover yesterday; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0NdP7RZxe0 11,000 comments so far; like Hoover I can but acknowledge what you say Dan; suggestions in comments that the young lady was pilot monitoring; not PIC I take that to mean; just suggestions; and picking on what Hoover said; suggestions that structural failure at tail precipitated terrible things; reports part of elevator found miles away from crash site; terrible tragedy for all.

one of the comments was from a retired 747 captain; he commented that as best he could, he steered well away from and around any thunderstorms; I remember waiting for takeoff at Bangkok in a BA 747; the english pilot said he was going to wait a few minutess; seemed very prudent; we just held on the runway for a while; even for a big 400.

Long time airline pilot here. You nailed it.

What "equipment" do you fly {or have flown} ?? I was a Boeing mechanic for 30+ years.

The pilot was a 55 year old with a lot of experience. He would have never entered a storm and would have had experience with this before and would have known what measures to take to avoid this. I hope I am wrong but I suspect more than what meets the eye. Just does not add up. The 20 year old was the co-pilot from my understanding and was not ready to fly a plane like this as the main pilot per the news I have heard. Stink...Stank...Stunk...

I think it was ground controls fault. That aircraft was 22 years old so it had rudimentary weather radar. Ground Control using satellite data should have seen what the plane was heading into. Grok said commercial airliners use the heat of turbo fans to direct heat to the wings but small jets cannot do this. It’s CYA Time.

Lori's avatar

On the news yesterday someone said they think air traffic control was at fault too.

I remember a tale of a Spitfire pilot; flying over SE Asia 1944 or 1945; flew into a towering cumulonimbus; with no tops and down to the ground; he eventually found himself floating down; and pulled parachute; as it dawned on him the plane had disintegrated and he was now free and plane-less

There was a book when I was a kid. It was the story of a jet pilot whose plane failed and he bailed out into the storm cell. He lived to write a book about it. "The Man Who Rode the Thunder".

Interesting subject matter but there was no airplane which went down in Florida

Please elaborate. I am harboring conspiracy theories myself and would like to hear what you have to say.

9/11 commonalities…. seemingly ‘evaporating’ planes (frame by frame analysis of ‘impact’), explosions - post evaporation, zero plane wreckage reported at the scene. Witnesses hearing ‘bomb explosions’. ‘See-through’ plane wings always reminiscent of cutting edge hologram tech or AI glitching. The most seen video framing of the scene identically-relates to a picture of a hurricane on Google Reverse-Image Search. Who knows if that’s AI or not, but apparently the ‘plane’ didn’t tangle with the electrical wires/pylons at the scene on the ‘official’ video footage, so who knows if that’s AI or not? Masonic hallmarks of the ritualistic number ‘33’ all over it - as usual. Looks pretty shady if you know how 9/11 played out with the analysis and witness accounts that followed. Skepticism is the order of the day, I feel. If not, why not?

Lori's avatar

Yes, 9/11. Not at all what we were told nor the Oklahoma City Bombing. As I always say, don't piss on my leg and tell me its raining. Nice to know someone else is pondering the same.

A jet aircraft which lawn darts itself will shatter into a million pieces and leave a big hole in the ground. Only the larger pieces, like the engine and the wheels, are identifiable.

Zero airplane wreckage identified. Witnesses say there was zero evidence of a downed plane. A crater is what they’ve got. Nothing else. People meandering around with actual phones taking video - more truth than news crews. Nothing closed off, no federal investigation? Stinks. We’re living in the age of AI where the narratives need more documentary evidence than ever, but instead of that, there’s actually less documentary evidence being willingly offered. We’re supposed to listen to our news ‘blasts’, accept the narrative as authoritative fact and wait for the weather forecast. I need more than this. How about you?

You sound like Peggy Hall. She would welcome you with open arms.

Your insults are as meaningless as empty narrative headlines.

Are you even human John? I swear you're one of the most informed human beings on such a wide variety of topics. I often think you were born in the wrong era. I could easily see you at a F.S. Fitzgerald dinner party as the central raconteur of the evening.

As far as this tragedy, the preliminary evidence seems to show the horizontal stabs possibly damaged or even failing catastrophically sending that plane into a near vertical drop. The other possibility is over icing and a stall with over speeds ripping the stabs off (they're not visible in the video). Either way, they entered a danger zone they couldn't recover from.

The voice recording is a humbling reminder that none of us make it out alive. That realization was amplified in the last 60 seconds.

The pilot could be heard reciting some of the Lord's Prayer and abruptly and calmly saying "We're out of time." milliseconds before striking the ground. Sobering moment.

Sad story for those 9 people. Thank you, John, for the details of flying near an area of heavy convective weather. The information is helpful and interesting.

The IRGC is bracing for impact.

This is as good as any explanation seen so far of what likely happened, based on the specific characteristics and capabilities of this particular aircraft. All conjecture at this point, but all the facts seem to fit. https://youtu.be/XlGzLSJ-ZVE?si=g_VxW1UKHvkCRees
