When I saw John Bray's first interview on the Triggersmart youtube channel, finally I heard an explanation that explained all the weirdness that had never made sense. Are you paying any attention to the case? The idea is the Rode mic was tampered with, a shaped charge inserted, which is absolutely doable. Remember the pagers the Israelis rigged a few years ago? The massive injuries were inflicted by the shaped charge expelled, which is a projectile like a bullet. Don’t you find the idea of being shot from any angle much less likely than his mic exploding? The fact that his shirt puffs up like an explosion occurred under it. The mic blew up not as intended, it was expected to make a chest injury, it’s probably why a number of witnesses told the media initially that they saw that he was hit in the chest, right I the heart one said. These sort of witness accounts sound like actors reciting predetermined lines. Then there is the fellow that initially called out that he shot Charlie. Regardless, the idea someone like Tyler R would have obtained and used a frangible bullet does not fly. 30-06 frangible rounds are very hard to obtain. 30 cal frangible bullets (just the bullet, not the round) are fairly easy to find, but would need to have been handloaded. Again, Tyler did that? Frangible is a .00001% probability idea, or thereabouts. You really gotta watch the John Bray interviews about the mic/shaped charge idea. First time I saw him I was so glad to finally listen to a theory that explained pretty much everything. He explains the neck wound - mic housing fragment or more recently he thinks it was the battery. I don't get how at that angle, which Bray says works, it would get penetration to cause the massive bleeding. He's very technical so I bet he explains that, but I'd like to hear it and haven't yet.
If there was any worthwhile work done on this forensic eval by the med examiner it seems to me it would be to pick out every single piece of metal in the wound and weigh it, eval it for materials. Doing this would easily define the round used.
In actual testimony at the prelim it was stated they determined from the large fragment the bullet was between .28 and .301 inch. Absolute max of .301. A 30-06 bullet is .308, even though one would think it would be .300. Seems to more than satisfy reasonable doubt. More like proving he was not shot with Tyler's 30-06. It does seem like thousands of an inch would be hard to determine at that level of certainty, but that's what was stated from the stand - .301 upper limit.

What is not mentioned is the capability to measure accurately in thousandths of inches on a hunk of odd-shaped lead. It could easily variation a couple thousands but not 7.

While the bullet taken from Kirk's body was reported to be highly fragmented (too much so for a match), there were images presented in the prelim (by an ATF agent I believe) that showed the base of the jacket to be intact with a diameter ranging from .285 to .301 inches, depending on the axis measured--slightly small for the .308 diameter of a 30-06, 308 Winchester, or 300 Blackout. Of course it's quite possible the jacket recovered didn't come from the Mauser.

It's the visible neck wound, that I think most agree penetrated enough to sever the jugular or carotid and cause massive bleeding. I agree with your inclination, John Leake, that a .30 caliber bullet was loaded into a different casing, and used in a pistol, in a form similar to something such as a .300 Blackout, which uses a (5.56 NATO, the M16 round), or a .223 case neck expanded to .308, and loaded to a velocity of under 600 fps. Subsonic, yet deadly, little recoil, and likely fired from a position right in front of where Charlie Kirk was sitting. All video should be reviewed from this perspective. It is impossible that a full house .30-06 round was the killing shot... an exit wound would be inevitable. That is the fact. There remains another possibility, which is that the shooter was an expert, with knowledge of ballistics, terminal ballistics, and wound ballistics, an experienced handloader, and prepared a handload for specific parameters, with a rifle zeroed to the exact range, and a load that would hit that target perfectly on center, without exiting. It seems unlikely that the accused shooter possessed those skills, however.

Don’t you find the idea of being shot from any angle much less likely than his mic exploding? The fact that his shirt puffs up like an explosion occurred under it. The mic blew up not as intended, it was expected to make a chest injury, it’s probably why a number of witnesses told the media initially that they saw that he was hit in the chest, right I the heart one said. These sort of witness accounts sound like actors reciting predetermined lines. Then there is the fellow that initially called out that he shot Charlie. A shaped charge or directed energy device in the microphone could absolutely account for the injuries described in the medical examiner’s report (Jon Bray did a video about the internal injuries as well). Youtubers have shown plenty of examples of frangible rounds, how they'd behave. Not that differently from fmj or soft point, surprisingly. Regardless, the idea someone like Tyler R would have obtained and used a frangible bullet does not fly. 30-06 frangible rounds are very hard to obtain. 30 cal frangible bullets (just the bullet, not the round) are fairly easy to find, but would need to have been handloaded. Again, Tyler did that? Frangible is a .00001% probability idea, or thereabouts. You really gotta watch the John Bray interviews about the mic/shaped charge idea. First time I saw him I was so glad to finally listen to a theory that explained pretty much everything. He explains the neck wound - mic housing fragment or more recently he thinks it was the battery. I don't get how at that angle, which Bray says works, it would get penetration to cause the massive bleeding. He's very technical so I bet he explains that, but I'd like to hear it and haven't yet.
If there was any worthwhile work done on this forensic eval by the med examiner it seems to me it would be to pick out every single piece of metal in the wound and weigh it, eval it for materials. Doing this would easily define the round used.
In actual testimony at the prelim it was stated they determined from the large fragment the bullet was between .28 and .301 inch. Absolute max of .301. A 30-06 bullet is .308, even though one would think it would be .300. Seems to more than satisfy reasonable doubt. More like proving he was not shot with Tyler's 30-06. It does seem like thousands of an inch would be hard to determine at that level of certainty, but that's what was stated from the stand - .301 upper limit.

They need to determine whether or not the roof gun specifically fired THAT round-- somehow-- to prove he did the deed.

A ballistics expert testified exactly to this effect at the Tyler Robinson hearing IIRC. The "man of steel" comment from the TP spokesman has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard a spokesman say. But it doesn't mean they're covering anything up. In fact, it tends to argue against such a reading. It sounds much more like someone who would not imagine in a thousand years that TP was going to be a suspect in Charlie's killing than someone executing a coverup.

The ammo in Robinson's Mauser has been ID'd as Remington Core-Lokt 150 grain soft point, a common deer round and definitely not frangible. While the bullet taken from Kirk's body was reported to be highly fragmented (too much so for a match), there were images presented in the prelim (by an ATF agent I believe) that showed the base of the jacket to be intact with a diameter ranging from .285 to .301 inches, depending on the axis measured--slightly small for the .308 diameter of a 30-06, 308 Winchester, or 300 Blackout. Of course it's quite possible the jacket recovered didn't come from the Mauser.

It's the visible neck wound, that I think most agree penetrated enough to sever the jugular or carotid and cause massive bleeding. I agree with your inclination, John Leake, that a .30 caliber bullet was loaded into a different casing, and used in a pistol, in a form similar to something such as a .300 Blackout, which uses a (5.56 NATO, the M16 round), or a .223 case neck expanded to .308, and loaded to a velocity of under 600 fps. Subsonic, yet deadly, little recoil, and likely fired from a position right in front of where Charlie Kirk was sitting. All video should be reviewed from this perspective. It is impossible that a full house .30-06 round was the killing shot... an exit wound would be inevitable. That is the fact. There remains another possibility, which is that the shooter was an expert, with knowledge of ballistics, terminal ballistics, and wound ballistics, an experienced handloader, and prepared a handload for specific parameters, with a rifle zeroed to the exact range, and a load that would hit that target perfectly on center, without exiting. It seems unlikely that the accused shooter possessed those skills, however.
Your explanation makes more sense than the fantasy it was Tyler with a 30-06. But, the Rode mic/shaped charge makes more sense for several reasons. The weapon you propose would have had to be short barreled, making sufficient accuracy difficult. And far from a lock to not be observed, even photographed. And, gunshot wounds from a round like you describe are very, very often survivable unless extremely well placed. Way to chancy. They wanted to make absolutely this would result in death. Shaped charge, right on his body, was a sure kill.
