The vast majority of chips, salad dressings, and mayonnaise labeled as containing avocado oil showed fatty-acid and sterol profiles inconsistent with authentic avocado oil.
I would like to know how we can have samples from our kitchen tested; there must be a simple test to distinguish seed oils from olive oil, etc. Please let me know if you are aware of such a test.
Products don't belong in the human body. If people want to be healthy, they need to learn to eat real food...not processed. I cut out all salad oils 33 years ago, because I was experiencing 3 to 4 excruciating three day migraines monthly. I learned what 14 -15 grams per tablespoon of fat can do to the body, when one slathers on salad oil or dressing...and doesn't think about the fat. After I stopped the salad oils, plus mayo, nuts, seeds, etc., I have not had one more headache in the last 33 years.
I agree 100%. We believed the label on Chosen Mayo when it said 100% Avocado Oil. Wouldn't you call that false advertising? Anyway, if they found foods that did indeed use Avocado Oil, then why not publish that for the health and well being of their readers? Does not make sense to only tell us what not to eat, and not what we can eat.
We need to understand that corporations only want money, nothing else. They don't care about what we want or about us at all except because if we don't like what they do, we won't buy their products. Government is the same, all they care about is that you vote it doesn't matter who for because all government is run by the Phoenicians anyway. They all work for the same team, they all use the same scorecard - banker's money. You'd think people would be looking elsewhere for an exchange system but no, people just keep complaining and not understanding how they're being fleeced and plundered.
I guess our labeling laws are completely worthless....? I'm tempted to gather a bunch of my receipts for a couple of these items and send copies to the company demanding a refund for their falsely labeled junk. SMDH
A nanny state is not the answer. The whole concept of labeling laws is communist. Forcing business to not make false claims is communist. Good luck to entrepreneurs if they want to take the marks for a ride. If the product is crap the market will turn against it.
When the market itself is real and not controlled, correct. Same with information itself being free and accessible instead of an endless stream of propaganda.
There will be no market corrections when government regulation and force chooses some businesses as winners in any context.
Most all Federal Government agencies are either owned by the firms they are designed to regulate, or they simply "jobs programs" designed to give positions, dignity and paychecks to the totally incompetent populations that congregate around DC and Denver.
That is fraud. I ate several packages of Siete brand just last week, thinking I was getting high-quality oil, and I have two Sir Kensington's mayo in the fridge. Dear God, what a corrupt world we live in, ruled by greed. I always go back to how the average citizen gets penalized for minor infractions right, left, and center, while big corporations slide on the most egregious frauds of all types, whether it is lying about ingredients or claiming a patient died of COVID when they did not. I hope there is a class-action lawsuit, but the laws are failing us greatly.
The real benefit is that you can't afford to eat too many. I saw the tallow chips on the shelf this weekend and flinched at the price. But I really did want to see if they tasted that much better- maybe next month?
I have a membership with Consumer Labs and they recently reported on this study. I have been using Chosen Foods Avocado Oil, which tested okay, but the Chosen Foods Avocado Mayonnaise did not.
This report left me wondering why? Why would this company sell healthy Avocado Oil, and then compromise their mayo?
I guess it’s all about the money. But, it looks like I will have to start making my mayonnaise from scratch.
I suspect that many of these products are produced by contract manufacturers who are substituting cheaper oils to make more money. Nothing can be trusted today. You must question everything, even what you think are the most mundane.
I believe that you’re totally correct. I’m picturing myself stomping on olives, just to make sure. Where are our government agencies that our tax dollars go towards to check this sort of thing?
All you need is eggs, olive oil and lemon..combine in food processor or whisk yourself til combined. Short shelf life but that's indicative.. search homemade mayo for more details..
What an important study! This behavior is outrageous and dishonest and should be a prime target of Sec. Kennedy's HHS. Reading labels when shopping is crucial to avoid toxic processed foods. How can we expect citizens to regain health if labeling is fraudulent?
Even bottles of olive and avocado oils are adulterated. Putting the bottle in the freezer overnight helps determine whether the oil is adulterated; if you see separated oils, it's fake.
That’s outrageous food fraud! Is it the avocado oil company committing the fraud to its customers or are each of the manufacturers scamming the public?
I hope they get heavy fines. I’ve bought several of those adulterated products! I’m pissed!
What’s new? It’s the Peek Fraud Era. For Boulder Chips I have sensed strange tastes sometimes. Done eating snacks like this. Now do a study for Beef Tallow and Lard.
Thank you very much for this information. We have been eating the chips labeled Avacado Oil thinking they were ok. So much for that. Two bags in the pantry headed for the trash....
Uh oh, I have a new jar in my fridge of “Primal Kitchen Mayo made with Avocado Oil” (which is the first ingredient on the list).
I called their number, as listed on the label: 888 774-6259 (M-F, 7 am-3:30 pm PST) and immediately after the recorded message of “Thank you for calling Primal Nutrition” and me pressing 1, a pleasant young woman took my call, assuring me, “We do use 100% avocado.” She added that they use third party testing and suggested I see their website for more info. No other response is available yet, their Quality Assurance team is looking into it. I asked how often they test, she included that in my inquiry.
The email address for Primal Nutrition, LLC, in Oxnard CA, is not on the label, but was easily found online: info@primalkitchen.com
At the website, I didn’t find any testing reports but learned that one cofounder, Mark Sisson, is the guy whose articles I often read, years ago, Mark’s Daily Apple.
The study was funded by the University of California at Davis. The study used 2 lots of the products they tested, not just one.
Sounds like if I really want mayo, that I'll have to make it homemade (with Olive Oil that is authenic!) and probably better eggs than in any commercial mayo!
It would be good to also publish the products that met the standard. That would be giving kudos to those companies that do go by what they say.
I'd like to know if the bottled avocado oils are actually simply avocado oils.
I did, too. See my comment below.
I would like to know how we can have samples from our kitchen tested; there must be a simple test to distinguish seed oils from olive oil, etc. Please let me know if you are aware of such a test.
Exactly. It’s nice to know what to buy, not just what not to buy.

Just wait until you stop consuming all plants. You'll realize how bad you felt when you were feeling good.
Another report in some detail:

yes please!!! I've bought some of the ones that made the naughty list. But not all that I've bought or heard about are on here.
I guess our labeling laws are completely worthless....? I'm tempted to gather a bunch of my receipts for a couple of these items and send copies to the company demanding a refund for their falsely labeled junk. SMDH
At the very least, call them and express your disappointment and hope that they will actually provide what you thought you were getting

Are y having a stroke or something?
TDS much, Hazel?
I keep telling you, Brawndo's got what plants crave.....
Sorry, but not true for Pharma

All government regulation is useless. That’s correct.
Tell me again why tax payer's money is used to fund the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)?????????
What a joke.
Most all Federal Government agencies are either owned by the firms they are designed to regulate, or they simply "jobs programs" designed to give positions, dignity and paychecks to the totally incompetent populations that congregate around DC and Denver.
Remind me why there’s taxes in the first place - certainly not because of consent.

Yup, I was eating Siete chips for same reason. No more!
Dear Lord....I was eating Lesser Evil popcorn thinking I was in the clear.
But no ! Even that cannot be trusted. This is so discouraging.
Don't be discouraged. Try Masa chips made with tallow. Vandy potato chips made with tallow. Both have no seed oils!!
The real benefit is that you can't afford to eat too many. I saw the tallow chips on the shelf this weekend and flinched at the price. But I really did want to see if they tasted that much better- maybe next month?

I've had it! I'm going to start making my own also. Lots of how-to videos on YouTube.
Right. I’ve made it before and it’s not that hard to do.
I hope that you’re right. These companies have to be aware of this report, so maybe something will be done. Hopefully!
I suspect that it’s relying on others who provide source ingredients that are not what they say they are

Thanks Karon! I'm going to join Consumer Labs today!
I've used that Primal Kitchen mayo! The ONLY WAY to know what is in something is to make it yourself. Snacks? Forget it
Where can you get the real ingredients to make it? You can't even trust that.
All you need is eggs, olive oil and lemon..combine in food processor or whisk yourself til combined. Short shelf life but that's indicative.. search homemade mayo for more details..

Yes. I would like to know who actually is complying with the standards because I’ve been duped.
Love your name

I use both local tallow, and lard.
I'd like to know if packaged lard is, in fact, just lard.
Thank you very much for this information. We have been eating the chips labeled Avacado Oil thinking they were ok. So much for that. Two bags in the pantry headed for the trash....

Me too, same but unopened ... threw away the receipt from Natural Grocers, though😞
WTF? I’m so tired of all the lies and these greedy and evil corporations!!
