compassionate detachment is a powerful practice. may you continue your pursuit of truth with confidence, curiosity and courage. thank you for your service to humanity 🤍
What a beautiful comment. The pursuit of truth and integrity can feel perilous and uncomfortable, and we can all be helped by compassionate detachment in those moments, and become stronger upon hearing difficult messages. I'm reminded of the various times I've heard RFK Jr say that he tries to be "indifferent to his discomfort" (when referring to pursuing his life's work and what he feels called to do, in the face of criticism). It also brings to mind the quote by George Orwell: “In times of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”
thank you for your insight. knowing that one’s true worth is unaffected by anyone’s thoughts or feelings, including one’s own internal dialogue, is key. stay strong and clear, beautiful friend!
If a person feel such vitriol towards another, it is usually irrational. That individual does not even know the source of his/her angst. Reminds me of TDS. There is not a person I know that can tell me the reason they hate Trump so much. They can list certain things like his personality, or he is like Hitler but most of the time it is irrational hate. And they won’t enter a conversation because they can’t defend their position. That person is not worth your time. I agree it is interesting to hear their position but you learn nothing from hate being spewed at you. Constructive criticism is another story. I learn so much from you including this post. I appreciate that watching someone treat you poorly like watching a movie is great advice. My mantra is never take anything personally, be impeccable with my word, don’t assume anything and always do my best. Great way to live from The Four Agreements. God Bless You!
my boyfriend was talking to the wife our business partner the other day. she choked on the word she was trying to come up with to describe the President. "he's, he's ab, ab..." she couldn't say it. my boyfriend stepped in. "abhorrent?" he asked and yes, that was the word she couldn't quite say.
but then she clarified it a bit. she didn't disagree with EVERYTHING he had done or was trying to do. if he can end the fighting in Gaza, she'd be grateful and if he can get DTC pharmaceutical commercials off TV, that would be the greatest thing (she's a nurse)!
since no president of any party ever has tried to end DTC advertising of drugs on television, one has to ask what she finds so "abhorrent" about the man who is bold enough to try.
People ( on Nextdoor, the only social media I do) keep saying he ( Trump)is a rapist,a mysoginist, a lyer, tyrant ,fascist,a criminal ,and, other abhorrent things. These same people saw nothing wrong with the vegetable our last president was…yet,no one ever gives the information that proves he is those things…I KNOW he has flaws, and,I’m taken aback by some recent turns of events, but,I have NO IDEA where calling him a “rapist”(for example) comes from..?
When I try and use some information I learn from Dr McCaullah ( sp) these people throw the BS from Wikipedia at me that deletes the doctors great accomplishments…they don’t know that ANYONE can write stuff there, but,MAYBE that’s where some unreasonable anger comes from? OR,they were never human to begin with?..so very much now is AI. Knowing what is real is getting more and more difficult…
it's pretty crazy, isn't it. i was fired from my job of 40 years, not because of Trump but because of Biden. Trump may have green lit the covid vaccines, which turned out to be a terrible mistake and one that he can't admit to yet, but he never mandated them.
i had many "friends" who posted things on Facebook like "i can't wait for all those unvaccinated people to hurry up and die already." makes me think they were never very human to begin with. i'll certainly never speak to them again.
Thanks, John, for your writings. In this post, good perspective and coping technique. I still remember marveling at one "strange" writer who made vitriolic comments about a substack author whom I found valuable. I made a comment and he immediately shot back a taunting insult. A take away for me is to always be kind in my comments--I had not been as kind as I could have been, so edited my comment a bit later. Also I recognize that some people will have comments that I don't agree with and there is no point in trying to pursuade or reason with a commenter.
Most of these rude people would never say these things to someone's face. Human interaction tends to "tone down" conversation. One of the significant detriments to being able to communicate anonymously is you are shield from the other person....Social media is powerful for good and for social destruction.
The beauty of vitriol, hatred or malice in writing is that it really can't hurt anyone. It's just text on a screen! One ought to work on their self assessment if they fall prey to hatred expressed merely through the 2-dimensional mode.
It seems a programmed attack of A.I. trolls on substack is started. many articles just got many insults and bully polluting the comments. just report as much as you can.
That is exactly what I think about soooo much on social sites, these days…I hear,as much as 40% of all posts are bots,or AI programing…a real drain on our energy output .sigh…
John, the anonymous writer shows unreasonable animus! No logic to it! The person blocks you from replying, because he can't really defend his position. In reading your newsletters, I have not read anything, which I would find offensive or untruthful.
when people have no valid arguments to make, they descend into insults and personal attacks. on Facebook, they often hit the smiley emoji even though the subject isn't at all funny. the fact that he blocked you says pretty much everything about him
Given the nasty missives you get are rare, it means the vast majority of your readers like and appreciate you, and your thoughtful writing. That is a thought worth hanging onto.
Truth, truth telling and truth tellers all make the heathen rage. We are living in an age of the return(increase) of the demonic. There are many Jack Torrances.
Hey John, you think anyone who criticizes you is somehow irrational. Sorry, John, you are simply an anti-semite and your articles about the 'free speech' for those in american who want me dead, and about the 'genocide' in Gaza are case in point. You are so into following the logic about anything related to the death jab, but when it comes to Jews and Israel, your latent anti-semitism takes over and comes to the surface. I'm surprised that Dr. McCullough puts up with your anti-semitism.
I trust the computer less and less. Hate mail could be AI generated as one comment pointed out. If a real individual, they're looking for a response. Yours was perfect. The individual is looking to intimidate, provoke, and generate fright.
Dear John: from my own experience as well as observations of others it seems that as soon as you start to rise to local, state or national visibility you immediately begin to attract the evil attentions of crack-pots moved as you note by resentment. The psychologist, Eric Bearne, of “Transactional Analysis” fame, developed techniques for deflecting others’ attempts to ensnare you in manipulative “games” one of which he called “fogging” - when you hear or perceive taunts and insults directed at you instead if reacting and giving them their desired dopamine hits you imagine yourself as being a fog or cloud offering no resistance to the verbal bullets being shot at you. By not reacting you deprive them of their gratification.
I think it is a great weakness of President Trump that he feels he must counter every personal insult. I think this has only fed into a feeding frenzy by his critics.
I remember when Governor Jimmy Carter (not one of my favorite public figures) was campaigning in 1976 he would be a some function and detractors were literally pelting him with peanuts and he never reacted nor lost his trademark smile.
I thought the world of President George W. Bush when he ducked the flying sandal thrown at him while in Iraq and keeping his good humor.
The truth is they are psychopaths. Like Netanyahu being jeered by politicians, it is no skin off their nose to snub the disapproval of others and maybe even raise their determination for revenge. I've never been a psychopath so I am not sure, but they don't seem to mind one bit if everyone hates them. I guess so long as they are getting richer, it doesn't matter to them.
Actually i think you have seen hundreds of psychopaths but without recognizing them for what they are because they have a chameleon-like to camouflage their real self under a pleasant snd even winning persona.
In the Book of Proverbs, Solomon advises to avoid arguing with fools, as no words or points will make an impact on them. I think your attitude towards these types of people is a good one, as they are not necessarily attacking you but are just venting unhappiness/resentment at others generally and probably do it all the time. Nothing personal, just anger being poured out at another for convenience.
compassionate detachment is a powerful practice. may you continue your pursuit of truth with confidence, curiosity and courage. thank you for your service to humanity 🤍

I know…Forgive,if you can,but,NEVER forget…
Change your media source…
It’s ALL the media Norman. The media coddled Biden, protected him.
Most of us knew he had borderline dementia when he was placed in power.
But the media, connected to intelligence was silent.
Media,made up of people….unless they arn’t people,anymore. Just a computer AI program…IDK anything…

Heil honey, I'm home!
Some of it is truly a waste of our breath and time.....ugh

Possibly the majority of the Internet is AI bot farms, might be much more than 40%.
He, she, it are truly cowardly.

He or she must fear being wrong about you.
What a sad existance to live in hatred. So sorry you were the subjected to that.
Blessings

Forgiveness is the key ...." do unto others as you would have done unto you " immagine a world like that ....🤷🏻♂️🙏🏾🙏

Yes, the President should never respond to his critics with anger, only with humor and curiosity. It would make him infinitely more powerful.
I remember when Governor Jimmy Carter (not one of my favorite public figures) was campaigning in 1976 he would be a some function and detractors were literally pelting him with peanuts and he never reacted nor lost his trademark smile.

Politics attracts them like flies to garbage. See “Dissent Into Madness” by James Corbett.
