That treatment with antibiotics before a whooping cough infection, not only increased the severity of the infection, but resulted in defective and reduced short and long term immunity to pertussis?

You need to be talking to people who successfully treat whooping cough in babies without any of the drugs you are recommending... the LAST thing a baby needs during whooping cough is anti-tussives. The key to management of whooping cough, is to get the mucus up and out, not to suppress it.
If you land up in hospital, they put your baby flat on it's back, with a monitor, and anyone with any experience, knows that leaving a baby like that, is a very sure way of escalating the very problems that lead to death.
