i had measles as a child (i'm 73) and i can say that my high school educated stay at home mother was considered perfectly capable of nursing me through it without calling in the "experts." i remember soothing oatmeal baths to quiet the itching and her excellent homemade chicken soup to keep me hydrated and bolster my glutathione stores.
what i didn't have was autism, learning delays, asthma (i got that later from an exposure to formaldehyde). in other words, i "suffered" through the routine childhood infections with ease and didn't have any of the chronic illnesses that plague children today.
