I grew up in the days that, as school children, we were taught to “duck and cover.” We were shown movies in class of children ducking under their desks. We were taught that an air raid siren would sound a bit different than a fire siren, but, whenever we heard a fire siren while we were playing outside, we were taught to run home. We were told not to eat snow because it might be radioactive (and we chuckled because it might also have dog pee).
We must be about the the same age. I grew up in the "duck and cover" era too. My father was career Air Force so we always lived close to an Air Force base.
