A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled human trial found rapid reductions in exercise-induced musculoskeletal pain after a single 1-gram dose of turmeric/Boswellia extract.
Hi Nicolas, do you think this would work for arthritis? I've just been told that my knee pain is due to arthritis and a torn meniscus. I've been advised to take paracetamol for pain relief but I'd rather not. Maybe I should try this. I'm not working out - just walking is painful but I've been told I must keep moving.
I know someone who recently started using that for a long term torn shoulder that was bad enough to limit activity. This person is now back to training and participating in sports at a higher level without wearing a brace and without the pain they would always feel. Other things have healed too, apparently, just a slew of old injuries. 1x/week application of an aloe vera dmso pure water mixture. It's a sulfur molecule, though from reports, it seems out in front of the rest that I have tried.
Personal experience is limited: I tried it once on a burn and it did all the things people say it does. However, it also "heals" ie clears out botox, and as I get that for overactive muscles, I haven't yet tried it for more.
I just started using DMSO and taking 1/4 tsp per day of borax for annoying arthritis in my fingers and toes. I've noticed greater joint mobility, and less redness and pain.
For muscles, it's yoga stretches and massaging sore muscles with a hard rubber dog ball.
It's very easy to try. I use turmeric powder as a spice on yogurt fruit bowl (strained yogurt because the whey can cause pain). I have a spinal injury and it's part of my daily regimen. Yes it works, although spinal pain is on a whole other level.
I think his point about possibly interfering with healing is valid for any inflammatory suppressant, but there is a difference between useful inflammation and endless, purposeless inflammation.
There are other nutritional approaches and treatments that can help besides nsaids. A number of nutritional supplements which are in the sulfur category are helpful for that type of pain; supplements like quercetin are helpful for pain and could help reset the system (even nsaids produce pain reliever tolerance); hyaluronic acid is a different type of painkiller as well as rebuilding or cushioning joint tissue depending on its mode of application.
And I will mention that hyaluronic injections and PRP treatments are both in the wheelhouse for knee problems. PRP even improves surgery outcomes for knees specifically. I haven't used it after surgery, only on its own, and it's been amazing for me. It cleared scar tissue from 2 joints (ankle, shoulder ) and took them from level 7+ to 0-1 pain, which has lasted several years for each site. These sorts of treatments are prepared for by stopping all anti-inflammatory medications and supplements a couple weeks beforehand, and that includes turmeric, ginger, and that entire family of spices as well as the supplements people use for the purpose.
Another anecdotal reply: Last summer, I had 2 large dogs (one was mine, lol) run straight into my right knee at the dog park; about 140lbs total at full ramming-speed. Severe knee pain that felt like something was torn, or broken, or both. Good news, it was just sore and painful. Decided to use myself as an experiment: I took Aleve 1x a day for 2 days, then took an organic Turmeric blend tablet (with Ginger Root & Black Pepper extract, all in was 610 mg 1x per day for 2 days). Then, switched back to Aleve 1x for 1 day, Turmeric tablet 1x for 1 day, and without a doubt, my knee felt much better each day that I used the Turmeric. So, as the second week began, I simply took 1 Turmeric each day over the next week and by the end of those two weeks, all discomfort was gone.
A couple of months ago, I was out walking my dog and met up with a neighbor walking his, though it was easy to see he was in pain. He had wrenched his back four days prior, had been using all types of OTC meds, nothing was helping. I told him the same Dog-Park / Turmeric story. He went out that day, bought the same brand, I saw him on another walk two days later, and he relayed that his back was already getting much better after using the Turmeric. He was so relieved and so happy. His words, not mine, “I hadn’t had any improvement during the first four days, then two days of using Turmeric, and I was astonished at how much better my back was already feeling.”
I got rid of arthritis in 1986 by simply eliminating the foods that caused it. The wrong food is the culprit! Many 'good' foods people eat have side effects. There is a good book by Dr. James Braly, M.D. and Ron Hoggan, M.A. entitled Dangerous Grains...It states that 200 diseases are caused by grains. I gave them up in 1986. No more arthritis. Another food, which causes joint and ligament problems are the Nightshades...They have a toxin in them called solanine, which causes painful problems.. A few years back I woke up one morning and couldn't walk, my right ankle was red and swollen. I checked the foods I was eating and discovered that I was using jalapeno peppers in my eggs almost daily...and stopped them. It took awhile to heal, because i was in my late 80s, but it was the peppers that caused my problem. I have overcome almost every health issue by discovering the cause...primarily the wrong food and eliminating it. .
Hard to give specific advice without seeing the patient, but a round of physical therapy with a good mechanical analysis is recommended to ascertain whether imbalances in muscle groups may be worsening the mechanics of your knee function. (This can originate out or downstream from the problem, weak Glut medius can put undo pressure on the medial meniscus, for instance, or pronation of the foot/ankle can cause medial tibial rotation.
With some corrective exercise, your gait may be less painful, depending of course on the severity of your meniscus injury.
I have a hot mug of Cacao Bliss, coconut milk and stevia. Cacao Bliss contains turmeric and i also use a couple capsules of turmeric daily.. Every morning I am out doing a non-stop walk of 10,000 steps - 5. miles without a problem...no stiffness or soreness! It takes me 100 minutes. I feel better today at 92 than I felt at 30.
We used this combination PLUS powdered ginger in capsules as a triple relief formula for arthritis and acute musculoskeletal pain sufferers for about two decades in practice.
It is noteworthy that Curcumin is poorly absorbed. Methods that go back thousands of years in India involve taking it with Black Pepper, fats like coconut, and herbs we associate with curries.
Modern techniques involve creating liposomal delivery systems.
Curcuminoids can be irritating on the gastric lining, so taking it with food was always my recommendation, as was the entire combination.

You can also try topical DMSO as well if this does not work.
👍

Yahoo!!!!
Anecdotal series of one, but I experienced considerable improvement of my osteoarthritis/DJD pain using these this combination.
Keep moving and consider either borax (trace mineral boron) or chlorine dioxide. Look into Jim Hummel, Andreas Kalcker, curious outlier
I've used Borax off and on for arthritis. Not a cure, but reduces redness and pain. For muscle pain it's yoga and massage with a hard rubber dog ball.

Do we have any information on potential side effects of this combination on the liver/kidneys?

Some Indians boil the turmeric root in milk. The butterfat aids absorption.
What about chronic pain from severe injury? Like competing with or reducing opioid intake?
