A great essay about men with balls ending with a message about a balless Congress.

Yes, out of country for a couple of years is a great idea John! I'm seriously considering Uruguay.

Interesting.

I was looking at Uruguay a couple of years ago, until I read up on its behaviour during the peak plandemic years. When I discovered it was doing the same as everywhere else on the planet, I cooled somewhat. Did I misjudge something?

Reading about Admiral Blas de Lezo reminds me of Commodore Aristide Aubert Du Petit Thouars at the 1798 Battle of the Nile: 'Although Captain Du Petit Thouars had lost both legs and an arm he remained in command, insisting on having the tricolour nailed to the mast to prevent it from being struck and giving orders from his position propped up on deck in a bucket of wheat.'

Thank you, once again, Mr. Leake, for changing the subject.

Trump and his crew are pirates, history shows examples going back through American history. Far from being the protector of so-called democracy, these pirates force nations to change and make them pay. Those that don’t submit, like Cuba are sanctioned.

Shame we don’t have the same Spanish Captains to kick the likes of Trump up his arse!

You recently wrote that foreign wars were indefensible. Yet, here you dream fondly of gallant soldiers who fight to retain foreign colonies. Fondness for "fightning"? Isn't that a vile thing? Isn't war a bad thing any which way you cut it? If Trump were Spanish and lived 600 yrs ago, would you be fond of his conquest of nuclear threats?

Which is it? Based upon the response, your question may more accurately be answered.

Spanish and English officers fought it out hand to hand with sabers for control of the seas, and they often paid their respects to each other. I don't advocate that the powers of europe return to close quarter naval combat, but I admire the bravery and dash of those men centuries ago, before the invention of aircraft for bombing cities containing women and children. And as I have written in this column before, the moral quality of war changed when the old men who start them ceased fighting them. None of our warmongers in Washington go to the front. If Trump or his sons led a gallant raid in Iran, I would be very impressed.

Where do nuclear projection and ballistic missiles fall on your map of quality of dash? Would Washington have risked his and his men's lives if he could have instead called in airstrikes from afar? Is that cowardly?

The techniques of warfare have changed drastically, yet you side step that and impugn respectable people for taking difficult decisions that are always critiqued afterwards.

Are you convicting WWII pilots of murder because they bombed Europe? How many of those brave men were lost? Hand to hand is the only bravery? Really?

The moral quality of war changed with modern machinery? Are you not aware of conquests through all of history in which all sorts were slaughtered, raped, enslaved?

Absurd words.

No comparison here.

I thought it an interesting piece about the great sea battles from centuries ago. Evergreen’s comment ia rather inane.

Chuck's avatar

Evergreen’s comment is moronic, the sort if thing the village idiot would shrink from spouting.

John Leake's avatar

A very funny formulation! To be charitable to Evergreen, he is apparently convinced the Iranian regime is suicidal and therefore willing to accept prompt and utter destruction in return for the brief pleasure it will attain from nuking Israel or the US. I don't share his conviction, which gives us a starkly different perspective on the matter.
