I do often wonder when you are spouting off from that vantage point, with zero military experience and even less actual intel, what you could, or would do (if you had either) instead of casting judgement from afar, although trotting around Europe like an aristocrat (albeit of Texan roots) gets you closer to the “action” in terms of mileage.

You're overthinking the goal of this "war" by thinking about it empirically and logically. It's just about destruction.
In this case, it's about Trump destroying the American empire at the behest of Israel. It's a spiritual war and "The Jews who killed Jesus and are the enemies of all mankind" (2 Thess 2:15) are at war with the Logos. Rebellion against God. It's an old story and it just keep replaying over and over.
Here's a thought that might make it simple. Every bill that gets passed gets some catchy name or acronym that is supposed to reflect it's intended nature. The No Child Left Behind or the USA Patriot Act, the Jobs Act. Every time, the actual effect is 180 degrees opposite as the intended affect. It's not accidental.

One must have some doubts that the executive department of government or legislative branch, who constitutionally are the only branch that has the right to declare war is even in control. As Smedley Butler said, all wars are bankers wars. I suspect this is largely true today, although others, such as large multinational corporation executives, military industrial complex may all work together to decide these matters, leaving it to the politicians to sell the wars, however badly to the people.

Interesting article, fully intelligent and informed. However, the conclusion that Islamist leaders are more “calm, composed, and articulate” than their counterparts is laughable. Islamists cannot be negotiated with because they are not truthfully disclosing their own intentions, and will not negotiate in good faith. Islamists are not fighting against the West because of our freedoms, rights, or prosperity, but only because the West is primarily Christian, and will not submit to Islam, or become enslaved by taxation and treatment as underclass poor. Those conditions will never be considered as compatible with Western Civilization. Therefore, the Islamist attacks on centers of Western commerce, and military strength will only lead to retaliation. Islamists insistence on increasing the lethality of their threats by enriching uranium and developing nuclear weapons capability cannot be allowed. Islamists threats signify a Holy War, based on ideology with no end except complete defeat, not imperialism, land, minerals, or wealth. This is not a normal war in any sense, and will not be solved by normal negotiations.
Clausewitz assumed that the political leaders of a nation would be rational people who would want their nation to thrive. Fast forward to today: I think our leaders are achieving their clearly held goals: War as an enrichment of armaments producers and a source of money laundering.
