Your summary,John, it seems to me, both destroys your central theme as to the value of these “Republican values”, and reveals the very same “lip service” you rightly attribute to the Republicans in congress.
I refer to your comment that Emma, this adulterous woman who did not value her hardworking kind husband, as being a:
“far more vivid, engaging, and attractive character than her plodding husband”.
Is this not the very same hypocrisy that has got us where we’re are?
To put it more succinctly, John:
Just what exactly do you find “far more, engaging and attractive” in her character?
While I would suppose there is something “vivid” in it, whatever that means, it is precisely her character that I find repulsive rather than engaging and attractive.
And I rather suspect that as long as we elect leaders, such as yourself with a veneer of education and respectability who on the one hand say they value “good values”, but at the same time are attracted by perverse ones and extol them, rather being openly repulsed by them; and as the scriptures tell us to do about this condition which, is to search ourselves and the scriptures, and thereby to “mortify” (actually put to death these repulsive traits in ourselves, not just talk about them) we will continue down the current path of destruction we are on.
Isn’t this just what we see in Trump? Did he not champion and make much of His Christian values, and in fact seem to make war on the perversion in some spheres, while at the same time shielding and protecting it in his friends and companions as we saw in the Epstein business?
Say one thing, do another, and that in the most profoundly immoral ways: not only the perversion of sexual desires, but also the perversion of the genetic code itself!
And all for the worship of money and power.
“The love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:10.
May He grant us all repentance and and faith to believe and obey Him.
"With Republicans gaining control of both chambers of Congress, he came into possession of an extraordinary mandate. " -- and he squandered it. That's what people need to focus on.
As stated, Trump had the ability to do something great for the American people, but he chose otherwise. We can think and hypothesize on why he didn't, but the fact is that he didn't - forcing millions of Americans to vote Blue.
In all actuality, this is the fault of the two party system: there is always a swing back and forth. Trump could've really done something and kept the Republican way -- and values for another four years -- but he INTENTIONALLY squandered that.
The truth of the matter is that this is modern politics. Gone are the ideals of democracy. America is a technocratic oligarchy as reflected by the numbers quoted above and until the great masses of Americans reject the political system and begin to take matters into their own hands, relying on themselves, their neighbors, and more, no change will occur: https://unorthodoxy.substack.com/p/america-is-a-technocratic-oligarchy
Change will only occur when millions take responsibility to fix their lives by themselves.
Yes, he had both legislative chambers filled with RINOS fighting him at every turn, did not push his agenda through with legislation, or confirm his appointments, and then the judiciary did exactly the same tying up any executive orders for positive change in the courts who are NOT upholding the Constitution and claiming they can’t hear important cases because of “standing”. Not saying I agree with the war move when so many people are struggling in America, unless there is more to the “war” story the public does not know. I still question that elections are secure so yeah…
Republicans gaining control of both chambers of Congress, he came into possession of an extraordinary mandate.
Why am I feeling that it has been a 'do nothing' congress, while Trump ruled by executive actions...it seems hard to believe that the Republicans controlled both chambers of congress. I know they did, though...we may not see 'that' happen again for a generation or two..if 'we' can survive what is surely coming next....
I'm not so sure Trump "blew it" as much as he successfully played the character he was cast in by the behind-the-scenes manipulators of popular opinion. Any self-respecting conspiracy theorist, studied in the ways of secret societies such as the Council on Foreign Relations, Trilateral Commission and Bilderberg group knows that politicians are mere play-actors on a public stage. To get to high positions, as has been repeated ad nauseam by insiders, politicians must make dreadful compromises. Funding necessary to get elected would not flow otherwise. Trump is part of the Epstein class, so in protecting the Epstein class, he was protecting himself. He is beholden to those who might expose him, and to survive politically most likely did things he would rather not have done, which he knew would wreak havoc with his base. What we are seeing now is the ragged seams of manipulation. Why would Trump work so hard to get elected in 2024 promising the moon to the population, and burnishing his image as a populist, only to betray most of his promises? To stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons? Seriously??? Why has he and the legislature continued their spending spree, deepening the debt crisis? Because they thought it was best for the country? Again, can anyone seriously make that argument? It seems self-evident to me that any discerning student of politics can't help concluding that America has been put on an agenda of self-destruction by those who wish to see it's power diminished, and that politicians are the mercenaries who have been conscripted into the role of bringing it down. Whether those writing the scripts be the Chinese, the Globalists or both -- most likely the latter -- "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players..." as the Bard once said.
Super Good John, love the references to Roman Virtues etc, most of these applied to america before WW II, for instance my parents, who would never consider divorce, devoted, loyal and hard working, never cheated the IRS, etc..and exceptionally accomplished, no doubt like many more.
Trump's success of winnning in 2024 clearly when to his head, hubris of the greatest kind, like Icarus he flew too close to the sun, tariffs, kidnapping a head of state, slaughtering innocents, and then wallowing in the blood of it all. Like you , Trump was a light we all wanted since 2016, now extinguish by his own narcissisum.
The lack of passage of the SAVE Act is also a huge factor in where we are today. It was pointed out in another substack ( https://tierneyrealnewsnetwork.substack.com/p/the-numbers-don't-lie) that democrats were likely to tilt the power in their favor (most midterms favor the opposite party), and that the democrats needed such a large margin so as to not have radical factions (DSA, Muslims, the squad) have any leverage in holding up legislation or pushing their agenda, and so both sides worked towards that end. The Republicans thought this would give them a greater chance to regain in 2028.
The report found that $2.5 trillion is redistributed from the bottom 90% of Americans to the wealthiest 1% of Americans every year. Corporate Welfare Tops Each year, $2.5 trillion — yes, trillion with a "T" — has been redistributed from the bottom 90% of Americans to the wealthiest 1 % of all Americans. That's roughly $50 trillion —again, with a "T"— that used to go to middle-class and working-class Americans that has instead been rerouted to the pockets of the top 1%. When viewed through the data in this report, that huge gap in income inequality doesn't look so much like a law of nature as it does a massive heist.
Dear John. You have again outdone yourself with this important prose. Please continue to help us restore our nation. In an aspiring nation, visionary leaders would present the great virtues as you did, and show the people their failings, as you did. The gross domestic success would be envisioned as progress toward achieving the virtues. You have laid it out perfectly. Thank you for the inspiration.
Well Mr. Leake, you have delineated the true state of affairs not only in America but in most western nations. To shorten and describe the entire situation we can use two words...
FUC*ED UP.
Who is responsible though? I believe it is the "ruling class" that many here know who I refer to. And it is mostly leftist loons who voted for asswipes like turdo, biDUMB, ovomit, and the many European sops who wanted meatheads like Macron and Merkel etc.
The ones we call people are in reality sheeple and many are FITH. (fuc*ed in the head)
Today I have learned that the value system installed in me as a byproduct of being raised in the America of the late 60's and early 70's makes me Roman.
Which suits me well in light of my Italian heritage.
Your expanding of my perspective ain't such a bad outcome of the last 2 years.
One point that may or may not be related to the erosion of a free society and vibrant middle class: the increasing domination of economic - and hence social - activity by fewer and fewer monopolistic behemoths.
Through a rampage of mergers and acquisitions, a small number of huge corporations now dominate economic life. The US is one of the only countries that has anti-trust laws. When were these last enacted? Monopolies are all around, suffocating innovation and destroying entrepreneurship. Effectively snuffing out any true "market economy".
These corporations in turn are able to funnel massive funds into PACs and dominate media.
Corporate money does not distinguish between political parties. They fund/buy everyone.
It upsets me that so many people fail to see why we needed to take on Iran. Trump saw it, to his credit. He did what he had to do, and it cost all of us. But consider this: what would happen to our country if Iran got a nuclear weapon? They wouldn't need a missile, by the way, There are many other ways to deliver. Israel has been our steadfast friend in the Middle East, and they have been under unbelievable constant attack. What would you do if this were true of your neighborhood? I hope Trump can hold the line and the people realize their mistake in the next two years. I hope that Iran does crumble and fast, so that will be taken care of. Trump has done other questionable things, like the tariffs, but it appears this was a negotiating tactic more than anything else. But a tariff is a tax on the American people, and a rebate is still putting government between us and our hard earned funds. Trump is wrong on pharmaceuticals and Big Agriculture. But he's right on immigration, mostly right on abortion (didn't get rid of Planned Parenthood funding permanently), and can use his veto to keep Congress from totally messing up this country. We need a spiritual renaissance, focusing on surrender to Jesus, total acknowledgement of our sinfulness and salvation by grace alone. People who are committed to living an upright life so that marriages don't fall apart (so many of my family members had to choose from the general population for marriage, and chose someone, unwittingly, who had no such commitments to righteousness.) And at least one who is still married is married to someone who has been totally brainwashed politically. We must redouble our efforts to pray and to bring others to the foot of the cross. Trust in God. He's still in charge.
The biggest problem is money in the system and pilfering of our tax dollars that go to the big black whole of government waste, NGOs, overspending, and black budgets. On the local level, its waste, over-spending, and enriching themselves in many ways. I do believe republican ideology aligns with a strong society, I also think some democratic ideology does too....its not an either or, but destroying the family IS a democratic principle now, even if they wont admit it. Strong family means a strong society. Too many RINOs and DINOs get into politics and do the bidding of those that got them there, not those they represent. WEF, tavistock etc etc....all big bankers pushing the buttons. People are sick of it. Many are calling for a revolution. It's not good.

It's trickling down to the illegals nicely.
Notice how they never talk about those businesses that actually HIRED those migrants for LOWER WAGES and hence greater PROFITS.
If it's illegal to hire undocumented workers then how come only the workers are being arrested? Why not the business owners who hired them?
Remember, migrants don’t control who gets hired or who keeps a job—capitalist owners do.

Full control of government and did nothing for the middle class. We still have ACA, mRNA, Seed Oils….
Though I agree with many of the values you noted the Republican Party has not reflected that for many decades.
