Your summary,John, it seems to me, both destroys your central theme as to the value of these “Republican values”, and reveals the very same “lip service” you rightly attribute to the Republicans in congress.

I refer to your comment that Emma, this adulterous woman who did not value her hardworking kind husband, as being a:

“far more vivid, engaging, and attractive character than her plodding husband”.

Is this not the very same hypocrisy that has got us where we’re are?

To put it more succinctly, John:

Just what exactly do you find “far more, engaging and attractive” in her character?

While I would suppose there is something “vivid” in it, whatever that means, it is precisely her character that I find repulsive rather than engaging and attractive.

And I rather suspect that as long as we elect leaders, such as yourself with a veneer of education and respectability who on the one hand say they value “good values”, but at the same time are attracted by perverse ones and extol them, rather being openly repulsed by them; and as the scriptures tell us to do about this condition which, is to search ourselves and the scriptures, and thereby to “mortify” (actually put to death these repulsive traits in ourselves, not just talk about them) we will continue down the current path of destruction we are on.

Isn’t this just what we see in Trump? Did he not champion and make much of His Christian values, and in fact seem to make war on the perversion in some spheres, while at the same time shielding and protecting it in his friends and companions as we saw in the Epstein business?

Say one thing, do another, and that in the most profoundly immoral ways: not only the perversion of sexual desires, but also the perversion of the genetic code itself!

And all for the worship of money and power.

“The love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:10.

May He grant us all repentance and and faith to believe and obey Him.

"With Republicans gaining control of both chambers of Congress, he came into possession of an extraordinary mandate. " -- and he squandered it. That's what people need to focus on.

As stated, Trump had the ability to do something great for the American people, but he chose otherwise. We can think and hypothesize on why he didn't, but the fact is that he didn't - forcing millions of Americans to vote Blue.

In all actuality, this is the fault of the two party system: there is always a swing back and forth. Trump could've really done something and kept the Republican way -- and values for another four years -- but he INTENTIONALLY squandered that.

The truth of the matter is that this is modern politics. Gone are the ideals of democracy. America is a technocratic oligarchy as reflected by the numbers quoted above and until the great masses of Americans reject the political system and begin to take matters into their own hands, relying on themselves, their neighbors, and more, no change will occur: https://unorthodoxy.substack.com/p/america-is-a-technocratic-oligarchy

Change will only occur when millions take responsibility to fix their lives by themselves.
