I voted for Trump because he promised “no more wars.” Holding a man to his most important promise about matters of life and death is what self-respecting grownups do.
Trump didn't start the war with Iran - they have been at war with us for the past 47 years. He's just finishing it. And I might remind you - there are no boots on the ground. I guess you all would prefer that Iran has a nuclear weapon. Maybe you should look up some pictures of Hiroshima. Is that what you want for your family?? Because if Iran gets a nuke there is no doubt they will use it. And they will use it against the US. If Harris had been elected that is where we would be right now. I just don't understand what people don't understand about this.
That is the argument that Bibi Netanyahu has been making for 30 years--Oh, Iran must not get a nuke, if they get it they will use it, etc. And over and over, Iran has stated that they do not want nuclear weapons, and to this day they do not have one. Indeed, their missles with conventional warheads have become so effective that they can do devasting damage to Israel and other neighboring countries with just them, and we cannot stop them.
Then there is the little matter of why they had a revolution in 1979: we overthrew their democratically elected government in 1953 and installed the Shah, who ran a brutal dictatorship. We, the U.S., created the conditions for the rise of the current Iranian regime. Further, we had an agreement with Iran before Trump ever became president, that prohibited them from having nuclear weapons and allowed international nuclear inspectors in their nuclear power program. And Trump tore up that agreement.
Nuclear weapons are always used as the ultimate fear mongering tactic; but what if we realized that there’s no such things as a nuclear bomb.
People fail to realize that the footage shown of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were actually firebombed and that it’s quite impossible for nuclear weapons to exist.
Yet they continue to illegally enrich their Uranium to levels FAR above what is necessary for commercial nuclear power. If they don't want nuclear weapons they sure have a strange way of convincing anyone of that.
How the current regime in Iran was incentivized/created is irrelevant at this moment in time. We have to deal with what is not what it came from.
The West (US, UK, et al) started the war no later than 1953. But that is now conveniently buried, and when confronted, rationalized, as all good sophists do.
You are out of touch with evidence based reality, Schibly. The U.S., at the urging of the U.K., overthrew the democratically elected Mossadegh in 1953 in a coup engineered by the CIA (Kermit Roosevelt). For oil, of course. Mossadegh was replaced by a vicious dictator supported by the U.S. The US re-upped the war against Iran after Iranians overthrew that dictator, the Shah in 1979. So the proximate event was a war of aggression started by the U.S. in 1953. Learn some history.
“Because if Iran gets a nuke there is no doubt they will use it.” This is Iraqi WMD version 2.0 Bulldust. Again, out of touch with actual evidence.
Trump could have just gone in and mowed the lawn again like he did with "midnight hammer" if we really feared they were going to getting nukes again.
I think long term, getting Iran back into the hands of the Persians and ending the terror funnel is best. But I also think Trump picked the wrong time to do it, doesn't understand the enemy, and eroded a TON of America's soft power.
The dollar exists as a reserve currency on the lead standard, and Trump did impressive damage to that with his inability to finish Iran using all of America's military might short of a land invasion and showing the world that e funny have the stomach to prosecute a real war.
I think he'll keep the Senate. But I'm pretty sure he'll lose the house. Making him a lame duck as we play impeachapalooza for 2 years.
Something he could have avoided, even with the counter-productive Iranian war, has he used his political capital to actually do mass deportations and shame Congress into passing some laws instead of just find executive letters that will be overturned within 3 minutes of the Democrat taking the Whitehouse in 29.
No, he won because he fights for the working class. No new wars is important for sure, but getting us out of fighting wars for Ukraine and Europe is incredibly important and saves more lives in all probability.
Obviously your view of war is overly simplified as is your analysis of Trump. I recommend following Promethean Action for a comprehensive analysis of Trump's strategic plan, policies, and accomplishments in historical context. Trump is at war against the globalists who have sought to destroy America and the West since WWI. The war with Iran is unfortunately part of that war. The Iranian regime's self destructive ideology would ensure the use of a nuclear bomb should they be allowed to achieve one. Throwing around offensive terms without understanding is the least impressive argument you have made.
"Trump is at war against the globalists who have sought to destroy America and the West since WWI."
Trump is a stealth globalist masquerading as a reformer. Exhibit A: The suppression of what was going on with Epstein et al. There is a reason he was the only vivid outlier on a stage of *seventeen* Republican candidates in 2016.
Globalists are what took over the West, and they are fighting tooth and nail -- by whatever hybrid methods necessary -- to preserve their creeping path to their brand of totalitarianism. It's been out in the open since 2001, and "We the People" have thus far failed nearly every test. That's why they are now pushing ASAP the implementation of AI, with Trump as head cheerleader and against heavy popular opposition. It can't come fast enough for them to get the power to fully control every individual in the West.
I don't even think it's that complicated. Trump is a narcissist with no stable world view. His peers are the billionaires, and he'll do anything for their approval and doesn't even see "the little people".
Oh, I do agree *he* is quite shallow -- and likely being snookered by his own "advisers" constantly. I'm saying he was put there (as was Biden), and for others' purposes. It is now being displayed constantly and nakedly in his incessantly evolving rationalizations for the war.
“Promethean Action” = rebranded LaRouche supporters of Trump and his economic policies. The Trump regime’s economic policies have been a disaster. Accelerating inflation, deficits and fiat currency debasement.
I second the recommendation to follow Promethean Action, specifically the Promethean Updates YouTube channel with bite-sized 12-15 minute videos that help explain the deeper issues and what Trump is *trying* to do (though very imperfectly). It really helps to make sense of some things that appear to be random. I don’t believe he plays 4D chess (only God can do that) but there is more method to the madness than meets the eye.
What war? Congress has declared no war. An operation to stop a rogue nation- who murdered 188 of our young treasure in their beds while sleeping in barracks in Beirut Lebanon in 1988 and held 200 of our citizens hostage for a year while shouting death to America, is something previous presidents should’ve had the balls to do. The same nation that is destroying civilian ships in international waters at the behest of the British central bank money changers in order to control the shipment of oil around the world.
Maybe you should actually study both sides of the issuelike you say you do and watch some Promethean Action updates.
This war was stupid and Trump was wrong to start it. Or escalate it, if you prefer. Given the results so far, at least. However the Dems open border policy is a revolutionary act that will destroy the country. That is more dangerous for this nation than war with Iran. Despise Trump all you want for whatever reason you want. I wont say you are wrong to do so. But he doesnt hate you as much as the Democrats do. They want your money or your life and he seems to willing to stand in the way. As a wise man once said: there are no solutions, only tradeoffs.
That's the unfortunate position I find myself in. He's the worst person for the Whitehouse, except for everybody else.
We have nothing permanent, he wasted his political capital in tarrifs and war with no explanation or trying to get any buy in, so almost nothing he has done will last. Bit at least the border is closed for now and I'm not being arrested by the FBI. Unfortunately neither are his enemies, and that changes January 6th 2029.
I understand your sentiments but with humans still occupying this world….circumstances change. I sure didn’t want a war either but these terrorist are so unpredictable that you can’t let them have nuclear weapons. They are awaiting on the “3rd Imam”and think this would bring him back more quickly. I’m sure he has more information than we know and would not put anything past these terrorist.
I’ve likely not read enough of your posts to know that I’m making a fair assessment. So, question: have you become a one-issue detractor? I ask because…if the Democrats win the house and senate, the borders will be open again and thousands will die in the deserts and mountains of south and Central America and Mexico as they travel from all around the world attempting to cross over our southern border…do those deaths count somewhere in your “war” tally? Surely, those lives are equally as precious, are they not? Isn’t it just as heartless to subject those peoples to the tragedy of an open border policy? Have you considered counting the lives saved due to Trump’s closing of the border or is it just your line-item veto for all the good hes’s done?
If the D’s win, will they not attempt to pack the Supreme Court with leftist judges and forever wreck our constitution? Will they not immediately attempt to impeach Trump?
Will the D’s (oh the R’s are just as guilty on this one) not gorge themselves at the troughs of big pharma and big ag and further wreck health and environment?
I, too, voted for Trump and am supremely disappointed in quite a few of his actions. He promised to end Ukraine war and it is still going strong only by way of US assistance in many areas. And THAT is a war that we should have no involvement in at all.
You seem to say that Iran has NOT been at war with the US for nearly 50 years--that is surprisingly naive and uninformed on your part, as Iran has killed many Americans since 1979 and declares war on the US (and Israel) on a daily basis. As a retired US Army intelligence officer, I watched Iran build up their nuclear capability ever since the clerics took over in 1979, working with North Korea in particular and China. I watched them roadblock every attempt by international atomic regulatory authorities to inspect Iran's nuclear progress. Iran needed to be stopped. My issue is more with how the Trump admin has gone about it. I don't think they did their homework very well and their egos took over.
The bigger issue is who gains control of the US government if people vote against Trump or do not vote at all. Marxists/Communists take over. Is that better? I do not see how anyone can say that is the better choice. I love this country too much to not continue to support the awful cowardly Republicans, because the Marxist/Communist/Islamist Democrats will destroy US. The choice is clear.
I wish he didn't do it as well. If I give him the benefit of the doubt, I think he succumbed to the gambler's fallacy. If you think about it, he was on quite the hot streak at the time and he may have truly believed that it was going to be another cake walk, the Iranians would rise up and it would be over quickly. I fear the midterms will be a disaster as a result. This is just tragic after the most incredible comeback I've ever seen.
Politicians will always fail us...I really do believe an enlightened Being will have to save us from this dreadful mess...or else the people will have to rise and self govern...somehow. I have lost all faith in the concept of a person running for power. Man is too unconscious and corrupt.
Absolutely excellent comment on Trump breaking his “No Wars” promise being the breaking point. It is killing innocent people, clear and simple.
One additional thought you may consider.
Even if you are a soulless bastard that is fine with America killing innocent children, there is another critical reason for those sickos to oppose Trump's Iran war.
It’s illegal.
The US Constitution is very specific about Congress granting War Powers to the President. The Founders knew, having just fought a long war with a King that could declare war, how important it was to make it extremely difficult to start wars. Because they knew wars are the death of freedom.
As a result they imposed significant limitations on Presidents going to war. There are two ways a President can kill people, which is what war is.
Presidents can go to Congress and ask for a Declaration of War. Trump didn’t do that.
Alternatively Presidents can use the War Powers Act, which Trump did use. However, he used it illegally.
The WPA requires that there be an “imminent threat” (The War Powers Resolution defines an imminent threat as a situation where there is a "national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces.”). Since the US intelligence community believed that Iran poised no imminent threat, what was Trump’s proof that there was an imminent threat?
If there was no imminent threat, Trump Iran War is illegal.
The WPA also requires that US Armed Forces cannot be “deployed” longer that 60 or 90 days without Congressional approval. Trump did not do that either. Trump’s fantasy reason that there was a “cease fire so the 60/90 limits didn’t apply” is ridiculous and illegal. The WPA says Armed Forces “deployed”, not at war. Tell the poor service members on the USS Lincoln that they weren’t “deployed” past 90 days.
So for those that the mass murder of children, including untold millions that will starve to death because of Trump’s attack on global food and energy markets, isn’t enough to oppose the Trump Iran War.
Step over the dead bodies and oppose Trump’s War because it is Illegal, you ghouls.
Amen. Trump proved to be another Manchurian candidate who delights in mocking the Americans, like me, who were stupid enough to believe he was against war and sincere in putting America's interest first. He's a POS puppet of a foreign nation.

Islam (the Ottomans) started the war and it has never ended. You really should read the Quran and Haddiths sometime soon.

It's OK if you believe that, Daniel, right up to the time you are proven wrong. We cannot afford for you to be proven wrong.
I agree with you 100%.
Just a regurgitation of MSM talking points. Think for yourself please.
Maybe you should give your head a shake and remember who dropped that bomb on Hiroshima. Hint, it wasn't the Iranians.
you make poorly reasoned logical leaps to reach your conclusion, and this sort of thinking leads to disaster
Do not just read the mainstream news and the propaganda spewed by the politicians. Naive, and dangerous to go with such propaganda.
Trump hasn’t nor will he finish anything.

Trump will likely loose both houses. He deserves it….”no new wars” ya right. One of the main reasons he won
I think he'll keep the Senate. But I'm pretty sure he'll lose the house. Making him a lame duck as we play impeachapalooza for 2 years.

No, he won because he fights for the working class. No new wars is important for sure, but getting us out of fighting wars for Ukraine and Europe is incredibly important and saves more lives in all probability.

Shallow intro no one is falling for! What exactly was the last "war" declared by Congress.
There is history before 1988 regarding Iran.

It's called the Uniparty, and it's real.
Ironically, the Trump regime’s failed war and economic policies have virtually ensured the resurgence of the perfidious democrats.
💯! We voted for him. He lied...hugely! Right on!
Dear Mr. Leake,

I fully agree with this clarification of your previous post that I fully agreed with.
I don't *fully* agree with all elements of all your posts, but on this (and most others) you make a strong contribution to the Substack community.
