If it's the water, then why doesn't everybody have the same greeds? It's a Spiritual problem, not a physical one...humanity is doomed to cycle through the same old dramas until we repent (change our minds) and choose anew...And we can't choose for another, only ourselves... but we can affect the collective, as more (if more) wake up and choose anew!
Not talking religion, here...talking about Spirituality.
'Re'=again...'ligion' from ligare meaning-'to bind'...To re-bind...We ALL rebind ourselves to something or someone every day...so we ALL have re-ligion of some sort.
Don't expect righteousness from unconscious people...only we (as individual aspects of God) can choose to become conscious (painfully, slowly, repetitively) and make different choices!
I am 69, up to my neck in health problems, (heart and back)...a lawsuit for trimming trees out of our community roadway...recovering from dealing with my 90 year old Mom's estate and 70 years of hoarding...Making new rental contracts for the property for some deserving people who don't have the means to purchase at this time...etc.
If I don't 'give it to God' it will consume me, but giving it to God is not so easy from my deeply programmed humanoid 'reality'. I'm committed to it. That is all I can say.
A line in Easy Rider (1969) goes like this: "We blew it!" So, if one had to formulate the line’s meaning, they would discover that neither the old American Dream nor their improvised countercultural substitute has yielded real freedom. They have “blown” the possibility of transforming their wealth, privilege, and historical moment into something genuinely liberating.(https://www.youtube.com/watchv=rMbATaj7Il8&list=RDMM&index=5)
These type of stories leave me with mixed emotions. You have a building that fell into disrepair and a few people have a vision to bring it back to life. It happens. That’s great. Then another group wants to seize control of it and tells lies about those who brought the building back to life. Not good. Ideally there should be a polite meeting of the two groups to come to somekind of agreement. One with legal counsel on both sides to get something in writing. As you say, we no longer live in a polite society. Especially since the Covid era abuses and lies from 2020 to 2022. Almost nothing is considered unacceptable behavior any longer.
Naivete about the human condition doesn't help. 'The Powerful Ones' don't want a heart to heart polite meeting...They want what they want and often get it. Rowing clubs are elite for most people, so most people don't relate to the situation. This is the devil's playground...Always has been if you look back into forbidden Spiritual history...The Biblical Sophia and her accidental creation of a Demi-urge who thinks it is God but is ignorant, selfish, isolated and miscreates everything it touches...That is whose image and likeness humanity is made in...Not the eternal Source. Our Spirits are of eternal Source, but not our human, physical forms and not our 'governments'.
In the last 100 years alone, governments have murdered over 100,000,000 people, many more before that...The Bible is full of OT genocidal god(s) who require gold, virgins, livestock, sacrifice, etc. That is the nature of this world. Only by consciously returning to the Real God can we move in a holy direction...It takes a LOT of work and most are not even aware of the work, let alone willing to undertake it.😎
Your readers should know that Highland Park is a one mile square town inside Dallas limits that is home to the ultra rich. My uncle lived there in a modest home for many years starting in 1901. My cousins went to school with the Hunt brothers and so many other ultra rich. Dallas Country Club is exclusive! They have the power and the money. My uncles modest home on a 75 foot lot was sold, torn down and a mansion was built on the property. His modest house and land sold for 1.5 million.
Not everyone (including my family) in HP was ultra rich when I was growing up, though a few were. The guys who built the town had good taste and the vision to found a top independent school district, which has drawn in a fair number of “McMansion” people.
John, sad to hear, and sad to say, I doubt this episode of greed, envy, shamelessness, is in any way unique or symptomatic of our day or Dallas's culture, just the bile of human waste of Godlessness, knowing full well that our culture has been captured by acquisitiveness (in all its forms) to a degree not experienced since Gomorah.
Wasn't that a TV show about JR Ewing? Maybe something in the water down there?
I have often wondered the same!

That's a reply befitting a Sunday sermon. Thanks!

The acquisition of large sums of money does not necessarily make people less trashy
Sadly, examples illustrating your statement abound in our society.

Aggressive and ruthless people are almost always self-righteous as well, which makes some especially dangerous
I agree the evil out there is so deep and pervasive it would be unbelievable to almost all people.
Almost?
